How do you close a losing trade?

If you have a hard profit target then you can have the luxury of posting the bid or offer with a limit order and let the trade come to you. However if you are taking a stop then you have to take the bid or ask, otherwise you're 'hoping' for a sudden short term change in the momentum and...

    Scalping and Trading

My entry rules are fairly basic and are based on a couple of ma's in a 3 min chart and a few familiar patterns. I do use some discretion in my entries but try and take the trades as they present themselves as much as possible. I also use a filter that keeps me out some of the chop. I also try...

The Evolution of an E-mini Trader

Huios You said that you made 7 good trades as you followed your plan but then you go on to say that you exited too early or you took too big a loss. Reading between the lines it would seem that you do not have a plan for your exits and therefor don't really have a plan for the trade as a...

    Scalping and Trading

Allen I trade a similar system to you in that I am looking to capitalize on the 3 or 4 moves a day of 6-12 points on the NQ's. Currently I am trading the Q's while I test my system but will move up to the NQ's next week as it looks as if my system is working so far. I use a 2:1 Risk/Reward...

What was your dumbest reaction after losing a day?

I normally 'lose a day' at least once a week. It tends to be a Saturday after a hard Friday night out.:D

Was yesterday a good day for y'all?

Agree with Darkhorse on this. The only 'lost opportunity' is the trade you didn't take when your methodology told you to take it.

    Undercapitalized account theory

Trading 100 shares will not earn you a living. The reason people suggest that a newbie start with 100 shares is to get them into the game without risking too much. Almost everyone will lose a portion of their account when they start trading. By only trading 100 shares until you are...

    IB & Emini data today.

I understand that the quotes aren't real real time. However over the last couple of days there has been about a 5-10 second lag when there is any kind of volume surge and the depth has been losing levels, sometimes showing only a few at a time. I'm trying to find out if this is a company problem...

    IB & Emini data today.

Same thing again Friday and today. The minute there is any volume, quotes are 1-2 points off on both the order page and the market depth page, and 1-2 levels of depth disappear. Anyone else having these problems?

Anyone else having problems with their IB NQ emini data today? My quotes seem to be off anywhere from 3-5 points.

    QQQ vs. NQ E-MINI

If you have enough capital, you should perhaps consider opening a separate brokers account to trade the Q's in the event of a system breakdown with your futures account. This will allow you to get the benefit of trading the futures but with a safety net.

    Nextrend & Emini Data

Does anyone know how to filter out the pre/post/overnight market Globex information on the emini's so that only US market hours are displayed. The pre/post/ovenight data really screws up my ma's so I have been using QQQ's or NDX instead. Thanks

    RISK and futures

If your stop (risk) is a fixed percentage of your capital then the risk is the same whether you trade futures or stocks. In fact, I would argue that, in Daytrading, futures have less risk as the added margin enables more efficient use of capital. 1. With additional margin, you are able to...
