Full-time living in an RV and commuting to NYC

That's what I've been wondering. I'm going to call a few parks up on Monday, and see if they also have limits on how long I can stay. If I can stay in the lot year round, then I'm definitely going to switch to an RV. I used to own a great condo in LA. Ever since I switched back to renting...

Full-time living in an RV and commuting to NYC

I lived in the ghetto for a year and a half, trying to save money. Let me just say this: there's a damn good reason there's a premium worked into the rent for not living in the ghetto. Ghetto people have ghetto problems, and it's worth every penny to get away from it. On the flip side...

Full-time living in an RV and commuting to NYC

Problem is, if you lose your job, you can't pay that dock fee. If you lose your job with an RV, you can go bounce around on federal land, 14 days at a time.

Full-time living in an RV and commuting to NYC

Please, don't laugh. I am serious. How practical is this plan? I live on the Upper West Side now, $1750/month in rent. I have about 300 sq. ft, on the first floor. My apartment does in fact have bars all over the windows. I was thinking that, in the summer, I could pick up an RV for...

Paper trading automated API with simulated fills, etc

I'm, unfortunately, regulated and the exchanges have my fingerprints. I can't execute any trades without approval and my hold period is 30 days. That doesn't mean I don't want to design and implement automated systems. Just one problem: I usually need a pay account before I can wire my logic...

    Server-side Data Feed

Just use multicast and model your design after how ARCA does it with their multicast feeds. You miss a packet or sequence number, and you get it down a retransmit channel. If you're using a feed for playback, just set up your network to bust out multicast data and don't bother with this TCP/IP...

Help with the Genesis C++ API

e-mail them and ask for the latest version of the library, also. There are cases where their stuff doesn't work right without the latest libraries.

    Trendlines and Support/Resistance

Bear with me as I am a statistician, but here's a lazy-man's approach I have used in the past: Take the actual, untransformed ticks and use a kernel-density estimator to get you an approximation of a probability density function. You'll notice that support and resistance ranges correspond to...

Historical data on demand from multiple tickers

I've got E-Signal, but I find it really tedious to load the symbols/series up and either export them to a flat file, parse them, and load them up. I haven't spent time doing the whole EFS language and trying to connect up a DLL either, and I really don' t want to. I'm looking for a simple...

    My Kid has talent

As a guy who was pushed to extremes, I advise you not to do it unless you have signs that your kid is naturally interested in something. I'm a mental wreck as a result of what my parents did to me. Always feel like a perpetual loser in everything I do, even when I succeed. I succeed (and...

Advice needed about pursuing MS in financial engineering

Schools can teach you how to mathematically construct portfolios to minimize exposure to various risk factors, though. The making money part depends on the motivation of the person.

Advice needed about pursuing MS in financial engineering

There's a lot of truth to this. I have a grad degree in statistics (ivy league) and an undergrad degree in ece (top 5 engineering school). It's anyone's guess what these hedge funds want. They're full of fickle, cocky people who love to talk about themselves. I somehow lucked out and...

    Dell system randomly shutting off

I figured it was a power supply gone wonky, so I swapped in a power supply from a dead computer (500W). System boots, I'm letting it run for a while to see if it stays alive. However, at boot up, it complains that the "card cage fan" is not alive; however, it lets me continue. Will the...

    I survived layoffs -and- finals

Thanks ETers. This forum was the best waste of time during down periods ever. I love you all, except stock_tr3d3r. I only mildly like him [or rather, his posts.] I think he's a contrarian troll, albeit a great forum troll.

What is the hardest college major?

I am never taking one of your posts seriously again. Math is not plug and chug as soon as you leave the basic calc framework. If you have a decent prof, you won't have it plug and chug in math either. I have an engineering undergrad degree and a grad degree in math. I know pain, sir. I...

Isn't It Obvious Where the $2 T Has Gone?

Is there some mathematical estimate we could use to prove this? Trading ES, not looking to make market impact except for politically convenient reasons... overall contract volume down. I think this is a possibility also, but feel like my half-baked ideas need to be tested more rigorously or...

    Option trading for a newbie

I'm an options n00b, but I don't understand your motivation for trading options. Cheap and easy leverage? I hate options spreads and paying those huge spreads. I'm too scared to step in. I like modest-beta stocks with liquidity to help me escape if I am wrong.

    java

I get support from Redhat on their commercial enterprise class systems. Their support is phenomenal and their consultants are among the smartest people I have ever seen. Without support, yeah, it could be an issue. Still, I am a very happy customer of Red Hat. I guess I could go without...

    I fucked it up

I'm just panicky since it's before finals. <-- me You know, I swear. I went through 8 semesters of this as an undergrad + another 3 as a grad, and finals week still makes me lose it mentally. You'd think I'd have gotten used to this by now, over a period of 10 years.

    I fucked it up

Yep, but if you read my story, I was in school working for the univ. before I got my job. Then, after getting job, I was about half-way through degree. I got until spring and then it's all over. Decided to finish. I took off work to focus on finals, but it is still hard as hell.
