    Ex-Californian Thread:

I never said I moved someplace better. ;-) I work on Wall St. now, but NYC is run the same way CA is. My quality of life here got WORSE, but I try to make up for it mentally by saying I'll learn things here that'll allow me to leave for some place better, like the middle of nowhere in Wyoming...

    Ex-Californian Thread:

You know, I wouldn't mind paying taxes if I got some kind of value in return. But with government, costs go up and quality of service goes down. What other business operates that way and actually stays in business?

    Marketsurfer's bold gold proclamation

To his credit, he did call the 20-30% short term decline. Had he traded it, he could've banked the decline and cut his losses and still pocketed a profit.

Anyone else get that feeling..That we are past the point of no return

Why can you rule this out? Sometimes I think everyone is just a Travis the Chimp waiting to go nuts when everything changes.

California… roadmap to Socialism in the USSA

One more thing -- it's deceptive that the actual rate is low, because almost all CA housing is more expensive than other states. A house that you can get for $300,000 in Michigan is easily $800,000 in CA.

California… roadmap to Socialism in the USSA

1.25% where I was, + the $700/year on the bond measure they added. For me it was just the last straw. I had a beautiful place to live, but I just felt like the value wasn't there. A beautiful place is not good enough in isolation -- it depends a lot on how educated the public is, how...

Anyone else get that feeling..That we are past the point of no return

I contemplated buying land and a lot of guns, as well as some training for raising crops and survivalism; however, what I haven't figured out is how I'm going to have enough ammo to shoot the looting hordes, and whether I should shoot them without questions, post a sign and then shoot, or what...

    Ex-Californian Thread:

In this thread, you should state why you left California. I'll go first: I left California because they raised my property taxes to build more space for LAUSD-managed school districts. Sold my condo at the peak in 2006 -- glad to say I was the last tick on the chart before the market for...

California… roadmap to Socialism in the USSA

The common man is an idiot. This is why democracy cannot work. I left CA. The last straw was when they passed on a bond measure to raise my property taxes. I ditched CA in 2006. Glad I did.

Obama to announce increase in taxes for businesses and wealthy

So? F the poor. I am tired of this lame argument for protecting the poor. We'll all be poor and won't be able to protect anybody if Nobama gets his way.

Now I am having fun prop-trading the stock market

I know what you're saying in concept, but the market is pretty damn good at not telling the truth about prices either. You can read the tape one second, but the liquidity can vaporize faster than you can click. I'll give you one example: I was on the trade desk and my software starting...

Now I am having fun prop-trading the stock market

How do you know you're victorious until you've either made it, or have been doing it for a long time? I've had my rocky ups and downs for a few years, and some months I was golden. There was some guy on here, 'lescor' or something. He made one post that changed my life. He said something...

    Gold....Perhaps Another Bubble....

The current gold scenario is almost serving as a great example of why technical analysis is such subjective lunacy, and can only work when people've found the appropriate indicator/pattern to model the underlying fundamentals. People on ET have been calling for shorting of gold since $830...

    Today should be interesting

Amen my brother. The bulls are going to be rounded up and sent to the slaughterhouse today. I'm long gold, wish I were short equities. I kept getting knocked out by government announcements so I said f-it and stayed long gold.

Bear Market is Over! GO long S&P 500!

Pardon my ignorance, but how does he classify commercial vs. large vs. speculators?

Bear Market is Over! GO long S&P 500!

Where'd you come up with the numbers? Even then, it looks like large traders were wrong a few times on this chart. There's some noise in there.

Why Gold has to go down...

Disagree. It's the factor decomposition of the assets in the asset-pricing models that count here. Silver and oil probably have heavier industrial components than gold and less of a safe-haven component, so the ratio is supposed to go out of wack. Anyone pricing this based on the...

Where to hideout in the worse-case economic scenario

I really love this country. I wasn't born here but I love it so much. What these politicians are doing makes me so upset. Have you ever driven across I-70? Or driven up the coast of California? Or jumped into a hot-spring? Or seen the Ozarks or the beach in South Carolina? The US is truly...
