If you can convince yourself the price is going up or down for a prolonged period of time, there's your trend. What you see is a trend may not be what I see as a trend - I argue this with a good friend all the time. To him, a 10-15 point ES move isn't a trend, because he's looking at a 1-day...

On those 3:30 rallies Friday and today yes, it was like shooting fish in a barrel....very easy to do one of those "jump on the train" type of strong trend trades and come away big with a runner or two.

Can't log into the site, and when I am able, I get kicked out after a few minutes......streaming quotes are nonexistent, etc. Big volume day,of course ... anyone else having problems at OXPS or elsewhere?

Unless I am forgetting something -- and I wasn't daytrading back then -- the exchanges were closed from Tuesday 9/11 until the following Monday. That was 4 full trading days, not two weeks. But to close down the exchanges for months? I highly doubt that, with respect to your sources.

That's an interesting semantical point - knowing that it's a personal thing from individual to individual, what's the general consensus on P/L tracking? I'm not one to go for all the percentages/ratios and stuff to market "my" success, and what I think is acceptable to me may be laughable to...

Mean reversion, as far as I know, is a counter-trend strategy .... those have's been dangerous to me since that's trying to pick tops and bottoms. Been burned too many times doing that. I'm a trend trader, but when the price 'reverts' or retraces to a set point, I may re-enter a trend trade...

Psychological, mainly. Paper-trading I would run 8 ES futures contracts w/o blinking an eye. Even though I'm well-capitalized, I started slowly in the real market, and good thing --- when I went "live" having only 2 contracts in the market terrified me with ice in my veins until I closed...

Oh I was less concerned about MY computers as the data feed dropping or a chart locking ... though of course I could always have my DSL die or trading system reboot. :) Better safe than sorry, though!

Funny I saw a few IB commercials on Bloomberg today ... not the 'bouncing balls' one on CNBC talking about cheaper commissions and throwing "blah point blah blah percent" figures out there, but rather a quieter, more professional one aimed at a more serious investor looking for an online broker...
