Below are two charts that I quickly found by Googling, they both go back about 100 years. I didn't check for accuracy but they tell an interesting story if they are accurate. My interpretation is that Real Estate outperformed Gold by a wide margin. :)

IMO ...... Charts are very deceiving, you pick out patterns that you want to see and past results are no indication of future results. Real Estate vs Gold for inflation hedge/investment: A: Gold or Gold on margin. B: Real Estate with a mortgage and possible rental income. I would pick B. :)

Mortgage = Good debt most of the time. Real Estate = Possible rental income to help pay for mortgage. Margin on gold = Very risky. Gold = No rental income. :)

IMO ...... In your case all you need to do is convert the funds into USD at your bank. No options, no FX broker, no currency futures, no BS - just a simple EUR to USD exchange. Check with your bank on the exchange rate, the % difference between the buy/sell. I'm charged 2.5% for a CAD to USD...

How does a trend follower benefit by selling puts? They lose out on any rallies and could end up buying at above market value, wiping out any option premiums they collect. IMO ..... trend followers should just buy the stock directly, or buy the options. :)
