Is ATR a good way to measure volatility?

Won't a simple glance at the chart tell you if the market is relatively volatile or not? Its a different issue if you want to measure the volatility which can be used for stop loss calculations.

    What has really changed?

Sure we keep hearing that the markets are always changing and one must adapt to the changing market conditions for continued profitability and all. Yet looking at recent and historical charts what is evident is the change in volume and volatility. Rest of the price chatacteristics like trend...

A question for pro traders. Profit targets or runners?

first i'm not a pro. scaling out at pre-determined exit levels gives the best chance of captiring 40 - 70% of the entire move. I try to keep one lot for the home run move and usually exit the rest of the lots. I fully expect that one lot to either break even or make a small loss. Again -...

Would This Information Help You In Trading

There are 800 others trading at the same price as you at the exact instant. What is the edge in knowing just who is on YOUR side of the trade? (assuming you dont trade super mega size)

Are you more comfortable buying or selling previous highs?

My 2 cents: buying/selling the highs is risky and gets stressful. Have a strategy which gets you in the trade long before the high is made and exit partly each time a new high is made.

Charlie Munger, 90 years old , and smarter than 100 of you put together

why can't all you whiners operate outside of the HFT domain? This is a freakin capitalist country right? If you are willing to risk your capital then you can do whatever you want (mostly legal stuff?) Increase your time frame. Its like your losses are due to HFT algos scalping pennies.

At a Crossroads on Trading... Hope Someone can Help!

i was kinda on the same boat few years ago.. if you start trading using your capital, have a limit of how much you are going to lose, because depending on what you trade, your account balance will deplete pretty soon.. so don't be surprised if that happens.. Trading experience/education...

    Starting with $10k

I am hoping you aren't serious but if you are - explain how can you trade 100 contracts with $10k and what happens if one trade (out of the trades in 240 days) goes bad - price goes in the opposite way just after you enter?

How you deal with the Stress and Anxiety?

if you're stressed out and anxious then you aren't trading right at many levels.. good trading has to be effortless and detachment from money is critical. Can you imagine a heart surgeon saying that surgery is so stressful given its a life or death for the patient?

    Starting with $10k

If you actively trade stocks won't they flag you as an active trader if your acct balance is less than 25k and limit you to 4 trades in 5 days or something like that? ofcourse you can trade the futures with 10k but will be out before you know it. dont know abt options

Let's discuss trading styles that don't involve prediction

assuming no one on ET take trades flipping a coin, if you just have a long or short bias (based on whatever you want to look at - price, indicators etc), one can follow what you mentioned provided the wins are more than the small losses.
