Network of experienced traders may serve similar purpose. Main thing prob is how to run a trading business... but also, learning things like what you don’t know you don’t know. Btw, I had never heard of the two shops you mentioned-neither looks like what I was referring to as “prop shop.”
I started trading at a prop shop (billed itself as a “training office”) after an initial 2 years retail options account. My thinking was it would fast-track my understanding of the market. Indeed it did-go into a prop shop with an open mind and willingness to learn and listen and one can learn...
I’m impressed at the description of your program. Having almost no programming experience, I’ve only gotten as far as figuring out what parts might be needed. Thanks for offering the tws api input - I’ve been approaching the api via python, as it seemed a little easier than java from a...
Thanks Robert, I agree. For my case - idk about ensemble’s- I’m actually interested in semi automated programming solutions, in order to speed up my manual trading.
Looks pretty cool to me... I’d love to figure out how to automate options trading in IB. What did you code the system in? As far as performance, keep experimenting and fine tuning your edge.
Thanks for the input! I’ll try “DoEvents” and see if that does what I want. Def want sub 1 second... I am currently trying to monitor multiple streaming time and sales and play sounds based on “last size.”
Thanks Spectre....I’ve seen this and a few others out there. I have yet to take these basic instructions and build a more complex spreadsheet. I tried this specific example to beep when for example, last size > 1000 on a set of streaming quotes and the results were hit or miss.
Both trading and programming have steep learning curves. I got into trading late - if I had it to do over, (besides starting earlier) I would have learned programming at the same time. One trader can only do so much. A trading team can possibly achieve exponential results.
a startup hedge fund with a trader who wants to code and a coder who wants to trade is just more appealing to me. additional programmers who just program can be hired as needed.
Best idea I can think of (after many years of thought) is for trader and programmer to start hedge fund and trade together. I personally have been looking for a "programmer who wants to trade."
Don,
I'm curious about your opinion, not tax advice - what would you advise a trader at your firm who missed the MTM election deadline for the previous tax year.
