    spread trading

Bone, when you talk about futures spreads are you talking about putting them on and holding them for more than intraday? I was on the floor in NYBOT and I remember an awful lot of traders who traded intermonth spreads -Long jul crude vs. Oct heating oil, long sept sugar against dec sugar...

    spread trading

Rs7 I agree with some of the points you make about spread trading . However, there are some things that I don't quite agree with the points you gave. Multi listing of spreads is good for the off floor trader since the spreads have narrowed dramatically. As an off the floor trader that...

    option scanners

Hi Bob111. The criteria I am thinking about deals with putting on calendar spreads. Several elements need to be present in order for me to consider putting the spread on. Here they are. 1. Bid asked spread must be less than 15 cents 2. Volume or open interest must be at a certain level...

    spread trading

Let me pose this situation that seems to happen a lot. "Smart money" thinks that stock at $80 has topped off and will drop within next 2-3 weeks. They bid up the 75 puts which makes the skew steep so 75 strike is at 50% IV while strike 80 is at 45% IV. As a swing option trader, you would sell...

    option scanners

Optrack is such a relic plus they charge $400 monthly for it BUT it is real time as opposed to Opscan's 15 min delayed.

    option scanners

I like it a lot after having trialled it about 2 months ago. However, I don't like being nickel and dimed for their separate features. Why would anyone buy a $995 software without a datafeed for that you've got to pay an additional $400, want a DB update to record dividend changes that is...

    option scanners

Judging from the lack of response regarding scanners,am I correct in assuming that Optionvue has the only monopoly is this world regarding option scanning systems. Any other ones that are not web server based? No wonder their fees are high!

Pro Frims are all about what?

DaytraderNYC. You offered some cogent points about advantages of prop firms. Although I agree with most of your points I beg to differ on some. 1. You said your money is not at risk-nothing can be further from the truth-after you get positive from your down 100K and you now have 50 k...

    "Bullets"

I looked at my option matrix of Ge and what I could see doing is buying the long stock, long the 45 put in Dec at 12.8 and instead of immediately selling the 45c at 25 cents, just leave that unlegged hoping that if GE goes up before Dec, I might be able to sell the 45 call at a greater price...

Probably in the neighborhood of 25 cents over fair value. I know with my ex LLC, you can get it for less if you are patient and willing to wait for the broker to work it against the crowd. He could call you with bid/oofer, you counter offer and so on.

    "Bullets"

As the trader owning the bullet, I wonder if you could make the phone call to the bullet company and sell the call to lock in the reversal. The trader then hits a home run since he was long the call synthetically at 0 which is now worth a lot. This is the reason why I sometimes put on a long put...

IB European commission on Eurex is not 'cheap'...

For cheap Eurex try Goldenberg Heymeyer. They use Jtrader and I believe it was 1 Euro pass pass thru fees AND they have pretty decent tech support/ order desk

    "Bullets"

no one is going to offer free bullets for the simple reason that there is a cost to laying out the $ for the purchses of the put and stock.

    "Bullets"

What i mean is that if you have a married put that last longer than a day which I have done in my retail account, I have the potential for a big gainer bec if stock goes up tomorrow I can then sell the call to complete the leg of a pure reversal which is lng stock, short call long put. RE...

    "Bullets"

I am not positive about margin since these securities are not regulated-i.e. exchange traded but are otc derivatives. I am sure they have margin per SEC or Fed rules BUT they is probably more relief in the debit/credit since in reality it is an almost riskless transaction. In fact some firms...

    "Bullets"

If I am not mistaken bullets are put up or are sold by OTC option trading firms like Susquenhanna and Essex Radex. There are a couple of retail firms that offer them. The problem is that you have to have more $ than 25K because you are actually buying stock and paying for the put premium when...
