For those that think FB is a good buy

Overall they are still making money this year. And if you add all the costs and incomes for netflix since 2000, which is as far back as I have data, they would have produced 1.02B of operating income. "Netflix has never really been profitable" when they've been profitable every year since 2003??

For those that think FB is a good buy

I've made this point too. Facebook has barely tried to make money yet. Right now their business is just a tiny little banner ad at the corner of the screen. Heck if they moved the ad to the middle upper part of the screen their advertising revenues could be 50% higher. Sponsored stories is just...

For those that think FB is a good buy

Um, netflix had a 12% operating margin in 2011, which is pretty good for a distributor. Operating margins were positive all the way from 2003 to 2011. This year the domestic business continues to be solidly profitable, supporting losses in international segments.

    Znga

ZNGA is its own special little turd, as I suggested earlier in this thread, when it was in the teens. I tried shorting it but unfortunately covered quickly when I found out IB was charging me 100% interest rates. Don't mistake FB for ZNGA.

    Facebook Crash

No offense, but it is my opinion that most of the posters here really do not understand facebook. I believe they have not even put a serious effort at making a profit, instead focusing on user experience and building what will prove to be a extremely valuable platform. I'm sure most of...

    Short Stock Borrowing Costs

There's no prefect hard criteria but if 30% of the float is short then you should watch out. The hard to borrow stocks are the ones institutions think make really good shorts and are therefore willing to pay high interest rates to borrow them, and therefore the brokers charge high interest...

    Short Stock Borrowing Costs

I think the issue is more the rates they charge you for hard to borrow securities. Popular shorts often cost 30%+ to borrow.

    Amzn

I have a small short on AMZN, althoug don't have a strong view on the earnings. Europe and FX will be a headwind, and retailtracker data has been a little on the weak side, so probably a negative bias going into earnings. Although its a great company I think the street gives them too much...

Stocks would be 50% lower without BUBBLE ben bernanke!!

May I ask where you got your economics PHD? If you want to challenge the conventional economic wisdom of monetary easing during economic down cycles, you best have some impressive credentials. The arrogance of the ignorant masses never ceases to amaze me. I'm no professor of economics so...

Stocks would be 50% lower without BUBBLE ben bernanke!!

The government and central bank always needs to provide stimulus during economic downturns, otherwise you have a great depression. During recessions consumers pull back, businesses then start laying off, and then consumers pull back more, creating a negatively self-perpetuating cycle. The...

Has the dreaded China crash finally arrived?

I'd very much like to see something more than anecdotal evidence of these empty cities that China bears are always mentioning. There is always some level of waste in an economy, and the extent to which its a problem depends on the severity of that waste. No real statistics exist such as...

Compliance issue when setting up a LLC

Most banks or financial institutions of any size won't let you trade. If not for the potential conflicts of interest or your potential access to insider information, they won't let you trade because it distracts you from your job. Sounds like you are trying to bypass the rules so unless you...

Why are Asians being targeted by black youths for robberies and burglaries?

Because Asians tend to be more affluent, therefore more likely have something worth stealing. Because Asians are perceived to be less likely to put up a fight when you mug them. Don't count on Sharpton or Jackson to get on this one..

Anybody have a career related to markets, but no necessarily trading?

So when you are pitching your services to your friends and family, obviously there are some marketing materials going on that likely includes the presentation of your historical results. Does the government regulate this process including how you may present your results? Or do they pretty...

Starting a fund / raising capital

Many have recommended IB's friends and family as the easiest way to start up and I am beginning to agree. However, what legal structure should my investment management company be operating under? Sole proprietarship, LLC, LLP, etc? After some basic reading, sole proprietarship seems...

    NERDS on Wall St.

Haha..I know you are just messing around and it is pretty funny. But on a more serious note, this is a big part of the problem with American culture and why I believe Asia will surpass the west in the long run. Unfortunately, it is and always has been uncool to be a nerd in this country. In...
