Starting a fund / raising capital

As, I've said, I've put on as big as a 30% position, although in my 10 years or so of managing my account there has only been about 8 or so situations where I've gone this big. If I'm putting on a position that big, I have clear short term catalysts identified, and if they do not materialize...

Starting a fund / raising capital

Answering this question is more complicated than I care to fully go into since I have a few different strategies with distinct time frames, risk exposures, and sizing parameters. I will focus on my medium to long term fundamental long short strategy which is my main focus and the biggest...

Starting a fund / raising capital

If you look at my recent post here just a few days ago, you will see it doesn't have that many works, and out of the few words it does have, I clearly state these returns are unlikely to be sustained. I don't know where you're quoting from or what I might have been referring to at any point...

Starting a fund / raising capital

I only posted the screen shots because several people asked for them, clearly because they doubted the returns. I have never commented on the level of risk I took to achieve them, but I wouldn't mind answering more questions along those lines if asked. I would just point out right now...

Starting a fund / raising capital

As I've said every time I posted that screen shot, the screen shot only pertains to my main account. The total returns I cite are for all my accounts on a consolidated basis. Holding period varies from intraday to multi year. Nowadays I'm focusing much more on longer term time frames.

Starting a fund / raising capital

YTD up 1.5mm, representing a 139% return. Overall another excellent year so far, although these returns are unlikely to be sustained. October was a relatively difficult month, down 0.7%, and the first down month in a year and a half. Screenshot represents the main account only.

    NFLX Earnings.

Spoken like a trader, not an investor. So I suppose its the management's job to be pump the stock price as high as they can regardless of reality? I suppose managing expectations so that they are reasonable is against fiduciary duty because it might hurt the stock price in the short term? I...

    NFLX Earnings.

In the year of the price increase and Qwikster fiasco, domestic segment operating profit declined a whopping 10%, while domestic subscribers grew 21%. Hardly what I would call "buried" the company. Lets not forget his achievements, including co-founding the company and successfully transitioning...

    NFLX Earnings.

Clearly you are long and disappointed with his comments then. Him suggesting momentum investors have driven the stock price too high has nothing to do with the performance of the company and has no impact on the long term value of the company. He has been remarkably consistent (and bullish) on...

    NFLX Earnings.

What, are you one of the momentum investors he was talking about? Disappointed you didn't get enough upside from the earnings release? Management teams comment on stock price all the time. Most of the time they say it is undervalued. It is refreshing that sometimes they will also take the...

ELON MUSK WARNS: A 'Tsunami Of Hurt' Is Coming For Anyone Betting Against Tesla

Didn't Musk also go on CNBC about a month ago basically saying TSLA is overvalued now? Something to the effect of 'the market is being very generous with our valuation.' Didn't watch it, just heard it happened.

3 "juveniles" kill man because they "were bored"

I kind of wonder if all democracies evolve towards an increasing level of socialism. Thanks to capitalism and globalization, the rich become richer while the poor and middle class remain stagnant at best. Everyone has one vote. The poor and middle class, which represent the vast majority...

    Trading and Fat Fingers

I make fat finger mistakes all the time. I just made one a few minutes ago and I made two today. Its usually just putting in a wrong digit, maybe a buy order at 13.2 instead of 12.2. Usually they don't really matter, because I primarily use orders that execute based on 1% of total volume traded...

    QE punished savers for nothing.

I intended to poke fun at some on the site that prefer to spin everything negatively. Personally I believe QE has little direct effect on the economy, and that is what this study is pointing out. QE has a large effect on asset prices, which boosts the economy through the wealth effect...

    QE punished savers for nothing.

How does this reconcile with the widely held ET belief that we are in a phantom economy held up by QE alone?

How much does equity research reports cost from BB?!

Spoke with Thomson. They indicated that for 1340/month you can get delayed access (2 to 10 days) to sell-side research up to 60k/year of "value" in research. The "value" of the research is stipulated by the broker and is typically around 10 a page. Since most brokers research is filled with 1...

How much does equity research reports cost from BB?!

Wow I did not know something like Plan 2 was available. I'll have to take a look. Thanks for posting that.

Ackman'a Herbalife Short Brings $650M Paper Loss

His temporary paper profits were because he made a convincing presentation that the company was an illegal pyramid scheme. He would not be able to cover his short so quickly after publicly 'bashing' the company as he would be accused and found guilty of market manipulation.

Byrne Takes Full Page WSJ Ad, Taunts Stevie

Most CEOs who complain about naked short sellers are operating frauds, or trying to draw attention away from their own poor performance. There are tons of companies out there with heavy short interest. Almost all of them are legitimate companies that just run their business, and let the stock...
