Why do We Make Trading so Difficult?

Welcome to ET, VST. Nice looking charts. Apologies if you already elaborated on this point previously, but on the first chart you posted you mentioned in the yellow type that your range breakout rule prevented you from entering on the fake (it's the fake break to the upside that I'm curious...

I just checked in a papertrading account I had set up, and QM is supported in the simulator.

Why do We Make Trading so Difficult?

Hi, Flashboy. I've struggled with this same problem, and I think it comes down to priority of focus and/or patience. I'll assume that you're already tracking higher-level timeframes to get a sense of whether the market is trending or not. I find it can be difficult to simultaneously look for...

    Commodities trading

I don't know if it's different for Canada, but IB has a pretty good papertrading setup. I believe you set it up through Account Management.

    Analysis by Neutral Guy

Mishwar, It's not the what, it's the how. It's important to understand that ET attracts many people who have less than honorable intentions (i.e., they make seemingly innocent posts with the intention of soliciting new subscribers, apostles, cult members, etc. -- only official sponsors, all...

    Analysis by Neutral Guy

Dustin, I tracked several of his calls in real-time (ET post time versus a RT chart) and most of them were actually pretty good. However, I completely agree with you that there's a huge difference between generating real trading results and performing accurate analysis without a trade (I've...

    Commodities trading

IB is great for futures, so you wouldn't necessarily need to look anywhere else. If you're going to trade crude futures, definitely stick to the nymini contracts (IB symbol=QM - current, or front, month is May). I don't think it would be on your radar anyway, but I would strongly suggest you...

    Analysis by Neutral Guy

Guilty as charged. I'll blame the FOMC meeting for making it such a boring trading day. Please know that I'm not out to give you hard time, Mishwar. I think having a respectful dialog is very important in this forum (with a little humor thrown in), and as I mentioned before I do respect...

    Analysis by Neutral Guy

This is another fine example of an evasive answer, as he completely ignored my question about papertrading versus real money. Mishwar, given that I've read quite a bit of your journal, I know already that you're "half a world away". Telling me that you're not from the US, in fact, doesn't...

    Analysis by Neutral Guy

Hi, John. Yes, I've been checking in on his journals for a couple of days. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the delayed quotes (first on the actual cash-market index value -- why wouldn't his broker have real-time L1 quotes?) and evasive answers on real vs. paper questions...

    Analysis by Neutral Guy

mishwar, I'm almost certain that I'm not alone here in my curiosity on this point, but are you trading real money or are you papertrading? It's really not clear to me from your posts. Thank you. Regards,

    Wash sale rule

Hi, Backdoor. Take note that pattern day trader (PDT) status has no significance at all in the context of taxes and the IRS. It's only relevant with respect to capital requirements, and being classified as a PDT by your broker will have no bearing on IRS's consideration of whether you...

    QT features?

I really like QT. There's an option with which you can select to have charts you open backfill automatically. I think the backfill speed is largely a function of your data provider and whether you use true tick backfill (not so much to do with QT). I used DTN/IQFeed with QT for a long time...

Views on "adding to a losing trade"?

One could take the viewpoint that once your stop limit is in (the technical level where you know the trade is loser) and if your profit target doesn't change in light of small movements of market, then each contract added when your first one is profitable has more risk and less profit potential...

Views on "adding to a losing trade"?

I'm curious how black-and-white folks are on the notion of not adding to a losing trade (please read the example before responding). Let's say there's a major break in the market (up or down), and then within the next couple of periods (however a period is defined for your trading style)...

    Have a tax question...please help...

Hmm. Beats me then. There must be several people here who trade options on futures through IB who can shed some light on this.
