Why can't I set "liquidate last" on a synthetic short?

Nope, it will close out a leg. If that doesn't satisfy margin req. it will close the other leg. Did you try setting liq. last from the account page? Under the portfolio section you can use right click to set it. There are no guarantees that liq. last will follow your instructions. I'd...

WTF? Down 15k on huge option mispricing. Can someone check please

So true. I was successful selling high IV with the May contract. Not so in June. Sold some puts (1x2 ratio write) for what IB said was around 190IV. IV went to 300+ pronto. Despite getting direction right, the trade has mostly been at a loss.

Objective vs Subjective: Trading Performance Affects my Mood Too Much

Yeah, I learned that one, too. Complacency, overconfidence and exuberance are also dangerous mindsets. It's funny, if you lose some money and make it back; you feel great about it. But if you make some money and lose it back, you can feel pretty down. Same result, opposite emotions.

Objective vs Subjective: Trading Performance Affects my Mood Too Much

It's a good topic OP and I'm sure that many of us struggle with it. Sure, you can have a healthy family life, but as with any stressful job, it may not be easy. It helps me to compartmentalize trading from my social life. Win or lose, I don't share much about it. That takes discipline, too...

Yeah, when you think about it, comparing him to a potato is insulting - to potatoes.

Calendar Spread on Futures & a Option Straddle. guaranteed Profit Strategy for daily/week trade?

Long future + short future = no future. Calendar + straddle will get whacked with SV decline, IV decline + time decay. Is the calendar ATM? or what? Calendar won't necessarily protect the straddle. Both sides could lose. Perhaps better to try this in low vol situations and at a ratio. No...

Yeah, the kind of dreams that make a mess.

    May '20 crude futures = $20, June '20 crude futures = $28

If memory serves me, the contango at the lows of 2008-2009 was larger. Closer to $20

Synthetic stock (buy call & sell put) - can you get assigned or not?

It's kind of a naive and poorly worded question. I believe that FSU interpreted it correctly and that OP meant assigned or auto-exercised. Sure, at or slightly below 50, this is possible, but not likely. The put may be exercised during RTH or part of AH. Those with exercise fees may let the...

Can one choose to not settle an ITM option at expiry?

You have to check with your broker for their specific rules on this. Interactive Brokers allows contrary instructions. I'd guess that many other brokers do, as well. Here's a scenario where you might want to do this. Say you are long 10 ITM calls at expiry and short 1000s to offset the...

Crude Oil At $1.50 Per Barrel?

No doubt due to high vol. The wings get out of whack. It really depends on the margin req. for the NP. What's the return over about 48 days? Seems like a sure bet, though. guru, I don't see the point in the BWB over the ratio spread, unless you're trying to cap margin or profit, somehow...

Crude Oil At $1.50 Per Barrel?

You're talking about the June contract - expires May 14. Bid now 1 tick with a trade at .02. Volume =1. Not sure what the margin would be, but the net return is undoubtedly low. The trade is no longer there, anyways. Personally, I'd rather trade CL than tie up that much capital for less than...

Long put "positive yield" on a dividend paying stock

It would have been helpful if you had included the price of the UL which was 16.20 at Wednes. close. You are assuming a constant share price less the div. each month. This + the div. factor gives the positive theta illusion. The declining share price also supports the put price. The 3.20...
