world markets - China bailout Might want to take a look at what's happening in the Asian markets right now. Not saying it's not fadeable - but there is some reason behind it.

The next shoe to drop: Ford and GM

The Dow is dollar-weighted (not saying you didn't know this staffpro, just thought I'd mention it for newbies). So, it's easy to figure out. The Dow divisor right now is 0.122834016, and GM's price is 4.36, so if GM went to 0, it would decrease the Dow by 4.36/0.122834016 = 35.5 points...

Do you think the euro is likely to replace the us dollar as the major currency?

Do you think the euro is likely to replace the us dollar as the major currency?

I found this, I skimmed it and it seems to be very informative. I plan on reading it in more detail and thought it would be helpful for tzna's research: http://www.cleg.org.uk/The%20Euro%20-%20Success%20or%20Failure.doc

Do you think the euro is likely to replace the us dollar as the major currency?

I guess we'll get our answer soon enough anyway, those meetings start Nov 15, just about a week away, and the EUR/USD is in a nice consolidating triangle that needs to break one way or another.

Do you think the euro is likely to replace the us dollar as the major currency?

I guess I'm the contrarian here. I think this recession is going to end up uniting Europe more. The monetary policy needed to combat it is going to be consistent across the board for their countries, so they will be able to start agreeing on courses of actions that all the countries can...

    Confiscation of retirement.

How would seizing retirement accounts even work for some of these accounts? We've got life settlements in one of ours. I know that there are ways to do real estate in an IRA. I think maybe they just switch them to being taxable if they do anything with the existing ones.

    Confiscation of retirement.

Of course, the entire article and concept pisses me off, but I had a question about this particular part: All workers would have 5 percent of their annual pay deducted from their paychecks and deposited to the GRA. They would still be paying Social Security and Medicare taxes, as would the...

Odds Czar: Simple Biases In the Futures Market: 2008

Art, I've heard a few people say Fridays are normally bearish for the stock markets. I guess this is just a myth, according to your analyses?

    Inflation not Deflation?

So, considering the article posted after you made this statement seems to be supporting this case, what exactly does it mean? Increased prices, yes, but increased prices that could be alleviated quickly because production could ramp up as quickly as new demand is created? Thanks everyone for...

Rates at 1% again, what's the next bubble?

Might want to look at that one again. Looks like the dollar might have peaked. My thinking is the dollar rose because of fears of deflation, fears in general, and deleveraging. With the latest GDP report, I think it's becoming clear to the world the US is more than willing to take care of...

    Will this scalping strategy work?

Have you accounted for the fact that a move from $10.00 to $10.03 for you to be in a profit isn't really a move from $10 to $10.03. It's a move from $9.99 (or whatever the bid is) to your price. At the point you pay $10, you're the lone one that is, the person behind you is only willing to pay...

how to daytrade and invest on the same stock and on the same account with IB?

Wouldn't the SSF be subject to the 60/40 tax rule, though? He still wouldn't get the full benefit of long-term capital gains.

Chart of 1873 and recovery article

Thoughts, anyone? After reading the first part of the article it gives me the impression we weren't quite at the same stage in the game as the panic of 1873, we're still in the 1871 stage or so. I'll probably read this in small chunks today as I have free time.

For those of you who think this action resembles 1873 - an interesting article about that recovery and the chart for the years after that. http://bigpicture.typepad.com/comments/files/1873Panic.pdf
