I agree, but what makes you say the rally will only last 2 days? Bear market rallies can last for weeks/months. I wouldn't be surprised to see this back at 1215 area within the next couple of weeks.

I think part of the problem here is that nobody is distinguishing between trend and counter-trend indicators. Trend indicators tend to have a positive expectancy and countertrend indicators generally do not. Thats not to say you can't make money using countertrend indicators (I do) but if you...

Tax on Trades Should Be Part of Rescue Plan, Some Democrats Say

This should, once and for all, cut the bullshit on this board about how Democrats only want to raise taxes for the rich (Who am I kidding? It won't). Hell make it 5% and no more 1040 capital loss deductions.

AIG - common stock tomorrow 17 Sept

Yeah, shareholders equity is the residual amount above assets-liabilities. Since assets and liabilities will go up by the same amount, it doesn't really change shareholders equity (The loan amount is owed to creditors not common stock bag holders)

    Question about MER stock price

When the buyout price is announced, the price would generally come in around $24-25, the difference is due to opportunity cost of holding the underlying vs investing your cash at the risk free rate (Depends on how far into the future the planned acquisition is). Theres also risk in holding if...

    Obama Tax Cuts

You're completely missing the point. I can donate all I want (and do) to organizations or people without being FORCED by the government. This same group of people you reference also believe that everyone should be forced to do the same that they do. Helping the poor is great, but then you...

    Obama Tax Cuts

True, the only people who feel this way are those receiving handouts OR righteous Warren Buffet-types who are so old and rich they think they better give money to someone else so they can feel better about themselves (truly the most selfish reason of all).

    Obama Tax Cuts

I agree, but I also don't think corporate tax rates should be raised either. According to your link, tax shelters have reduced taxes US companies pay (which is true), but one could argue they wouldn't be as prevalent if the tax rates weren't as high to begin with. Kind of a chicken and egg...

    Obama Tax Cuts

You'll notice the blog title is 'economist view' as in OPINION. Judging by his webpage he is a hardcore liberal so i would dismiss anything he writes as biased. US corporate tax rate (effective) are relatively high, and therefore large US corporations have outsourced services and...

Ike Forces Shutdown of 19% of U.S. Refining Capacity

Oil is not the problem, its gas prices in southern states that are being jacked up. There is a supply issue for refined oil/gasoline, not crude oil.

    EXTREME volatility next week.

Most of this garbage was already known on Friday before markets closed. Look at the DOW, it practically finished unchanged even though AIG was down 40%...
