Consider that there are a lot of different trading styles out there.
I can state the exact opposite of what you said and it would also be correct. It is extremely trader-dependant.
I am talking about 10,000,000 , not 1,000,000 ;)
But that applies to a somewhat small community of traders.
And I agree with you; someone doing 500k volume monthly could be better off with a deal similar to yours.
Quick example:
Monthly volume : 10M
Monthly PNL : 20,000
70% // 0.20 per 1000
Net = 12,000
100% // 1.00 per 1000
Net = 10,000
Of course the break point will vary widely with volume and monthly PNL.
And I don't even know of a firm that offers 100% and 1.10 per 1000.
But...
ECNs are networks used to buy and sell on electronic exchanges. There is no way around them, you have to use one or another, and their costs or rebates vary somewhat widely between different companies.
The option that makes the most money.
Someone doing 40k volume daily is much better off with a high payout/high commish deal.
Someone doing 500-600k volume daily is much better off with a lower payout/dirt cheap commish.
Anything over 60 and you're already beating Swift and Title (unless you're a branch owner or get a special deal from an owner).
Aside from that, it depends on experience and profitability.
