More efficient way to estimate IV?

Thanks again, I signed up for an account with them. I plan to trade only stocks for now as my experience lies in trading the underlyings, and papertrade options. Do you guys know if ToS also has a calculator for the "theoretical values" to compare to the actual values?

Uncertainty and Risk in Short-Term Trading

lol sure all pit traders lose money right? It's wrong to make assumptions about something you obviously don't fully understand. You have no idea how much of a newbie you make yourself sound. I'm ignoring this thread from now, your post before this showed the intent to sell crap.

More efficient way to estimate IV?

I currently use the calculator at cboe.com to see IV for individual options, it takes time for the page to load and filling in the numbers. Was wondering if anyone knows of a more efficient manner to estimate it. thanks

Uncertainty and Risk in Short-Term Trading

You're assuming that all short term traders have no understanding of risk management, probability expectancy, and are incapable of applying high-probability trading models. With your logic, all the floor traders should be losing money and that all the dumb money becomes profitable.

What would you do if you ever had a losing year?

You can consider applying a hard risk management scheme, where you stop trading after a certain drawdown occurs for the set period. e.g. No more trading if drawdown exceeds 10% per quarter, half year, or etc. This way you'll know exactly how much risk you're taking while preserving capital.

Uncertainty and Risk in Short-Term Trading

With all due respect Joe, I'm not sure if that's correct. I could be wrong here, please correct me if I am. When you understand the exact probabilities of each trade, average size of winners and losers in term of %, and potential outliers; then wouldn't the risk taken per trade not differ...

Vertical spread vs underlying, p/l calculation

Thanks Opt, Yes the question had sounded naive as if I wanted some simple formula. And no I don't plan to do anything with real money til I understand how it works exactly. The only way to really accurately estimate the underlying movement requirement would be through the calculator like the...
