The weekly chart will give you some great clues about where the market is likely to go based on cycle analysis....

You can use VIX (the bottom chart) as an intermediate term market direction indicator. It works very well. And it indicates sideways markets too. The bottom chart is basically two MAs of VIX. Have fun!

Donna, what I do is not all that different from what coach is doing. Differences are: 1) I put the hedge on the same time as the main spread. I see this as a tax to play the game. 2) I calculate the type and size of the hedge based on what I am willing to lose when SPX/volatility goes...

Never pay the stated commission schedule, negotiate....

And they also say don't risk more than 2.5% of your trading capital on any one position.... so it's a completely different type of trading than followed on this board.
