Hardly look at pre market data. Just start watching at the open. However, when I find a gapper I like, I want it to go higher than the premarket high during market hours before considering it.

Well, they might say they don't but if you are acting in the expectation that something might happen in the future, aren't you in effect predicting?
If a trader goes long, he might expect the price to go up -in the future- as it has not happened yet.

When I compare Qcharts to Interactive Brokers I also notice a tiny lag. If the connection is good, it usually is only 1/4 s. Something like that, but I am not a scalper, so I really don't care

You try a lot of things (diversification), but you do not know in advance what will happen, as you can not look into the future. You keep the things that work out as long as they work out(trailing stop), you drop what does not (initial stop)
