    MASSIVE short covering in stocks.

LOL...He's looking for 1600 by Friday.

    MASSIVE short covering in stocks.

Ordinarily I would agree with you, and you may be right, we'll find out tomorrow. There's no guarantee that it will be higher, as some here are assuming. In any case, this market has gone almost straight up in the face of tons of negative news. Things that ordinarily would have hit the market...

Trading when US equities run by foreign markets?

That's weird...I saw a tv news report saying that margin levels were near a high. It's true that when markets rally even on negative news that's usually pretty bullish.

Trading when US equities run by foreign markets?

I guess that's part of it - US stocks look cheaper on a currency basis. I must admit I am completely baffled. I used to have a pretty good feel for the markets but that seems to have evaporated. :(

Trading when US equities run by foreign markets?

I have to admit I'm at a loss here, both literally and figuratively. The market rockets higher in spite of lower earnings, higher inflation, lower consumer confidence, skyrocketing commodities and political problems. None of the traditional negative conditions for stocks have the slightest...

    A buy-dip opportunity?

I don't think we're looking at a buy-dip opportunity in US equities. Not yet, anyway. I think we might pull back for a week or so, especially if Friday's PPI number spooks the market. However, over the last month or even the last 9 months, the market hasn't given a rat's ass about higher...

    Wretched feeling

I have a gleeful feeling that my puts will continue to appreciate. :D But, hey, ya never know. And if we do sell off for the next 3 - 5 days, or even longer, it's not the apocalypse. The world economy seems to be in very good shape.

    Is this the same volente_00?

If volente's been a pain in the ass, I understand people wanting to give him hell. Having said that, the main reason I took a break from this forum for 3 - 4 months is that it reads most of the time like a bunch of old bitches at a beauty parlor gossiping and sniping at each other...

    Too many numbers being released

Yeah, the market is in many ways a fulcrum point for a zillion leveraged strategies that create pressure for the market to do not much of anything. Check out these headlines from Bloomberg: "KKR to Acquire First Data for $25.6 Billion in Second-Largest Buyout Ever" "New Century Files...

    Too many numbers being released

I don't think you have a lot to worry about. The fact that the market continues to hold up under a ton of negative news is bullish. I've been bearish for the last week or so but the market's showing plenty of resilience. I'm not one of the "freemasons are manipulating the markets" weirdos...

U.S. stocks seen falling in coming week

Well, here's a different take: "Cheapest Stocks in 20 Years Signal Bull Market as Economy Slows" http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=aTQvi3GCHXD0&refer=home

    Any Bulls Turned Bears?

Same here. It's alarming. I don't want to doom this thread to a political chit-chat move, but just look at the two candidates in the last presidential race. We had a choice between Beavis and Butthead. One thing I forgot to mention in the post above...China and many of the other Asian...

U.S. stocks seen falling in coming week

Yeah, I definitely thought that was a bit odd. I'll join you...I'll bring the pipe. :D

U.S. stocks seen falling in coming week

Good points, especially re press articles, most of which are fade fodder :p , but don't you think the day-end buying last week was quarter end window dressing?

    Any Bulls Turned Bears?

That's an excellent analysis but I'm still thinking the market will be under pressure for the following reasons: Oil - Driving season approaching, hurricane season approaching, Iran and the British sailors, implied volatility for options on oil stocks is below average level of last two years...

    Wallstreet Is Total Manipulation!!!

Absolutely freakin' right. That's what I like about trading compared to a lot of things. You can't run from the truth about your P&L. It is what it is. Yep. "The man's keepin' me down! It's not my fault!" :D
