To build or rent....and what to get?

PCs are cheap enough that you don't need to rent anything. Scrap together a couple grand and buy a decent core 2 duo machine. It'll last you a good 5 or 6 years. RoughTrader

    Jasper's Last Stand

The action since last friday has been somewhat whippy. Daily trends are clear by the end of the day but the way there twists and turns. It's hard to stay in sync. RoughTrader

How much do you need to make a day..

This is probably the most meaningful post I have seen on ET yet. This line of reasoning couldn't ring truer. Indeed, the ability to trade well does not correlate with steady profits in all markets and all setups that you see forming. Sometimes, the setups appear for moves that in hindsight...

we don't have too much time left to trade, another 25 years that is all

I think we have far less time than that. It's good to be mindful of other things in life beyond trading. RoughTrader

Coping with Depression following a major drawdown.

I read in a very good book that those times where you feel most down in the dirt financially are the best times to give money to those in true need :). Not easy to do by any means, but there is strong reward to be had by doing so. RoughTrader

What do you consider to be 'scalping'?

I don't use stops. I'm in the market all the time, and if I find myself on the wrong side of the market, I will simply reverse my position. Sometimes this way of trading leads to being chopped up, but overall I have found it to be the optimally profitable, at least for me. RoughTrader

Coping with Depression following a major drawdown.

    1) Get your health back. Absolutely no trading until that's there. With poor health, the stress accompanied by a large drawdown will only amplify illness you are trying to recover from. 2) Get your life priorities straight. At least for me, that means God first, family second, money third. If...

What do you consider to be 'scalping'?

I personally never understood this concept. The vast majority of moves (that are worth taking, at least) are worth much more than a handful of ticks. Once you get out, and the move is still valid, do you just get back in again? Or do you wait until the move becomes invalid and wait for the next...

RealEstate - THIS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

My parents bought property in Shizuoka Prefecture towards the height of the bubble, unfortunately. They lost a substantial amount of money. I know first-hand how out of control that market became. I remember even as a little kid those 1-bedroom apartments in Shibuya and Shinjuku selling for the...

RealEstate - THIS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

I'm not an economist, but I would probably regard those factors as negligible compared to the impact of mass-speculative activity. One should keep in mind that, although the birthrate is dismal in Japan, it still remains a country that is only slightly larger than California in geographical size...

When you get back to even - quit?

This is one of the most common psychological problems in trading. At some point I came to the conclusion that day trading should not be viewed within the scope of a single day (or session). Even if you get to BE and decide to quit for the day, the next day's trading offers new risks and...

RealEstate - THIS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

Like most places in California, crime hotzones are usually located in close geographic proximity to high socioeconomic status areas. Don't ask me why, I don't know. You would think that urban sprawl would place a barrier, but that's not the case. If you live in La Jolla, San Diego is an...
