Compare my ES performance to a futures benchmark or cash?

What would you suggest is the "right" way to go here? Let's say I want to compare my trading performance over a given period of time in the ES to a benchmark. Should that be the S&P Futures index for the same period (percentage change in equity starting with a base of 100)? Or should...

    Transition: loser to winner

The original poster clarified that he works part time and trades part time. Threei mentioned it took him 2 years. LBR suggests around 3 years. Clearly this is a gray area and will differ from one person to the next. I think it was Gary Smith who took 12 years (while working night shifts as a...

Dean Hoffman's Synergy & Checkmate systems

When is the stand alone version scheduled to come out, any idea. Nope - none, call Dean. Are you still trading synergy - yes. through a system broker Also if you dint mind could you tell me the worst drawdown point this year , again if you don't mind. About 40% early Fall I think, but...

Dean Hoffman's Synergy & Checkmate systems

I've traded Synergy for a year - what do you want to know about it? You can call Dean directly - he is very responsive. Apart from the fact that the code is locked (and why shouldn't it be, it took him 10 years to develop his system), you can't really trade it yourself unless you have a copy...

The Good Old Days - what were they like?

Thanks all who responded to this thread. It is good to have your perspective. Probably won't see that again but it is good to know that such things can happen and to be prepared for them if they do. In the meantime it's continuing to work for a living and trying to keep up a few ES points...

The Good Old Days - what were they like?

Would any of the experienced traders on ET care to comment on what it was like trading something like the ES or SP back in 2000? Was it like taking candy from a baby or did the high volatility mean you made heaps of dough one day and lost it the next? Just looking for general comments - I know...

    Transition: loser to winner

I read this over the weekend and thought it was relevant to this thread. I certainly need to re-evaluate my expectations about how long it usually takes to become profitable... Quote from Linda Bradford Raschke earlier this year: I think that the initial learning curve tends to be a bit...

    Transition: loser to winner

This is kind of depressing. You mean to tell me after slogging away for 4 whole years, paying rent/mortgage, scraping together some food each day to eat, and spending 8 to 12 hours a day in front of a set of monitors watching squiggles go up and down, you have just now run 4 months of green...

    Fidelity Active Trader

I started trading with them and stopped immediately when I realized their math for calculating real time profitability was wrong. Plenty of other things wrong with the platform but this one was unacceptable. IB is hard to beat.

Is there anything better? Damn good I would say. Easy to check out if you have not tired it - it is free in simulation mode. And for that matter, it is the best simulator I have seen also.

    ES Points? Long-Term Average? VOTE!

"Forgive me for being skeptical, but we are now approaching 80% profitable traders in this poll, and 28% who say they make, on average, over 4.5 pts/day/contract day-trading the e-minis." Not sure if many people have checked into "dbanks" trading journal of late. I posted some trading...

    ES daily calls results

"The members would only be those who can trade at least 10 contracts per trade..." Out of curiosity, I copied dbanks' results from 3/31/03 to 7/31/03 into my Trading Statistics worksheet. If I assume someone trading his method used a constant 10 contracts per trade and IB as their broker...

In TS7 I simply set the ADX User Defined range to start at 30. That way, you ONLY see the spots that qualify for consideration. P.S. I second the comment that this is a valuable journal that PM has given us - it is a very elegant method. - rcm

    Emini divergence journal

"Jeepers I've only looked back as far as June of this year so far. Found a trade almost every day with a much higher win to loss ratio. There would have to be a radical difference for the number of trades over time to drop so much in the previous year. Honestly no offense intended, but are you...

    Emini divergence journal

"...work through each day of past history that you want to check. It's pretty easy to find the trades. " I started back in July 2002 and found 86 trades. 43 winners, 3 that I counted at breakeven (because they went to the close at about entry price) and 40 losers. That would be a 52%...
