POLL: what's the most useless human emotion?

Envy is really useless, and people are constantly mistaking it for their sense of justice.

Does Rumsfeld have psychic power ?

Um... shouldn't the first choice read, "No, he had an intuition".

    "Bush is not a Nazi"

The Bush family aren't Nazi's, they just supported Nazis. And they did the same thing in Iraq and Afghanistan. Prop 'em up, then knock 'em down.

The rapid decline of the US dollar

Um,... some softball questions: Shouldn't a weak dollar cause an increase in the cost of goods and services here in the states? Why/ why not? Any indication this has begun already?

    Saddam Captured!!

I think they'll turn him over to the Iraqi gov't. They could be very creative in his sentencing. :D

    Playing the Saddam Gap

I don't think this will have much affect on the resistance directly, but it will have a huge positive effect on most Iraqis. They were still living in fear of Saddam until today. Could see more men joining the Iraqi army and police. Markets will gap way up and fill the gap very quickly, in...

Arcsinus law: distinguishing trend from persistency of chance

Good points Harry. I was just thinking, if as they say, only 10% of traders are successful, one has to wonder what percentage of that top 10% have been successful by pure chance. The real % of "good" traders could be much lower than 10%.

Hubble snaps the hand of God

Maxpi, like I was trying to explain earlier, they don't just measure a change in color, they measure a shift in apsorption bands. Read up on spectroscopy, I can't explain it any better than that.

Hubble snaps the hand of God

Nah, they know what colors they are. They can use spectroscopy and measure the shift in absorption lines caused by various elements.

Hubble snaps the hand of God

Oh is this another religious debate? I thought it was just comic relief and we could all enjoy the cool picture together.

POLL: What is the World's Most Evil Religion?

Who's brainwashing these guys anyway? I'm starting to get the impression its all based on the diatribe of some talk radio star. And Rogue had those cute cartoons, where did they come from? The religious right must be on some "Cult of Atheism" kick, where they all equate atheism with abortion...

POLL: What is the World's Most Evil Religion?

Already been explained about 10 times that atheism isn't something you "practice". Hey, this is fun though. Why change the subject? :p

POLL: What is the World's Most Evil Religion?

Rogue, you are the one who is practicing sophistry. Trying to support your argument that suspension of disbelief is impossible by changing the meaning of the word "atheist". To me, atheism always means the same thing. A lack of belief.

POLL: What is the World's Most Evil Religion?

Plants are DEFINITELY asocial. You seem to be hung up on this idea that these are "silly" concepts, but they are technically correct. They cannot however, be antisocial or social.
  18. B

POLL: What is the World's Most Evil Religion?

Actually the 'a' prefix means not "the opposite" but simply "without". Asocial means "without socializing". This is very different than antisocial which means "against society".
  19. B

I bet you didn't know this:

No, the fact that a plant has no capacity for belief is only incidental. It is the fact that the plant HAS no belief that makes it an atheist.

This is several equity curves of a player

Yeah, I get it. You could make a neural network or some other kind of system that would capture every single favorable coin toss in hindsight, but it would have no real predictive power. You could still get lucky, though. So how much out of sample testing or real trading experience should you...
