    what constitutes audited results?

If a trader wanted to prove that they were profitable, would they have have to provide brokerage statements showing individual trades, or just daily account value? Also, how would the 'auditor' know the statements weren't fake, given that many are only delivered as PDF documents, which can be...

Overnight ES and the S&P 500 Index

ES is a futures contract, so it's more like a bet on where you think the S&P will be in X months' time. As such, it is not the S&P index, and so there's no reason why it cannot trade outside of regular trading hours. All kinds of events happen outside RTH that influence it.

    IB simulation order queue

If you assume that the price has to go to one tick beyond where you want to be filled, you're on safe ground. That's what IB simulated fills seem to indicate most of the time anyway (I have a lot of experience with IB paper trading).

    Summary of a small disaster

    1) Backtest to find the worst-case for drawdown, and plan for it (i.e. have more than enough capital to handle it). 2) Be focused - find the single best system and just trade it (no more trading 6 systems with 18k!). 3) Don't be afraid to use leverage, once you are supremely confident in and...

Citadel's high frequency trader Malyshev to leave

I wonder if their competitor Peak6, down the road, has suffered similar losses? Anyone care to confirm or deny?

It will have to be named forextrader.com, as that will be the only instrument left available to us small-timers.

    The Noob's Delusion

Because letting an automated system just do its thing IS the tricky part.

    The Noob's Delusion

Like someone on here said recently, I could post my trade setups on the front page of the WSJ and people wouldn't take them. Even if someone told a noob a profitable system, chances are they would mess up its execution, because they haven't developed the discipline, determination and sheer...

    **ATTENTION** Transaction Tax

Here is the letter I sent also: Dear Sir, HR 1068 IH (Let Wall Street Pay for Wall Street's Bailout Act of 2009) Legislation I feel very strongly that this legislation should not be introduced. It would seem on the face of it attractive to tax the "Wall St. Fat Cats" in terms a...

Transaction Tax Bill has now been introduced

Here is a letter I drafted that you can feel free to send to your congressman or whatever: Dear Sir, HR 1068 IH (Let Wall Street Pay for Wall Street's Bailout Act of 2009) Legislation I feel very strongly that this legislation should not be introduced. It would seem on the face of it...

Looking for the Worst Automated Systems

That's why only lower-frequency systems lend themselves to inversion, where tx costs are less of a factor. This has already been covered in this thread.

    Futures riskier than stocks?

Surely your broker would automatically close your positions before you could go negative? After all, that $500 ES margin does still offer some protection for them - 10 points per contract, to be precise. You aren't going to go negative.

Looking for the Worst Automated Systems

I'm just glad that my real (live) system, not the ES one, got through this last week without losing money. Broke even for the week in other words. This system trades the YM. IMO the way forward with purely mechanical systems is to see when they do well and when they do badly, and then layer...
