I suspect it would have been a net loser. Even if it was net positive, then it's likely to be a curvefit.

Ammo, I've seen it too....the best quants are vampire zombies who can literally read your mind. If they don't like what they see they suck out your brains.... wink wink

I guess I'd have to assume that he's making money because he hasn't changed his money management yet. However, risking 40k to make 11k isn't something I'd be interested in.

    Is anyone using Divergence successfully?

All wrong....... Overlay a 60-minute swing low / swing high onto a "5-minute chart". You do NOT want the 60-minute swing low / high to have been hit prior to prices moving into the area. In other words, prices have not come back to test the level since it was formed. Hint: Higher Timeframes...

    Is anyone using Divergence successfully?

Addict, try overlaying a 60-minute UNTOUCHED (8-Bar Strength) Swing Low / Swing High on your chart and see if you can find instances in which divergence is occurring at support/resistance....let us know what you come up with.....

    Is anyone using Divergence successfully?

Hi Shop, I read over your thread and I was wondering if you could post some of your wonderful signals as they are setting up? Will you be able to post some of your setups in realtime? Thanks in advance

Josh, I'm reposting my original post. Take special note of "it took some years to find a way to make it work". Here, I'm specifically referring to Rule 1. Rule 1 is not vague at all but actually trying to implement it will be a bitch. I tried all sorts of combinations starting with time...

Josh, and here's something no one else has said before... there's nothing wrong with quitting. there are countless other ways to earn a living and don't feel that you HAVE to trade...let's face it 80%-90% will never make it long-term...even those that are doing well now also risk...

Take a deep breath and understand that successful trading takes time and patience. The best piece of advice I can give you is to stop trading with real money and go to a simulator until you are CERTAIN you have a legitimate edge.

...that the vast majority of traders "play the probability side of trading" - ie., this setup had a 60% plus win rate in the past...and much to their surprise it never works out the same in the future with real capital on the line. Phantom states that the probability side is for losing traders...

Agree.. What helped me some time ago was the Phantom of the Pits: http://www.webtrading.com/phantom/preface.htm Unfortunately, it took some years to find a way to make it work. You will find that much of what he says is true.

I trade with tight stops on the regular so it can be done successfully. You just gotta manage the trade and bail when the odds of success start to get away from you.... Edit: you also have to correctly pick your spot to enter.

    Trading probabilities

highly unlikely but still possible. My suggestion would be: 1. Still take the first trades in a forward test and use half position for those trades. 2. Rely on the backtested results and do not trade first trades and forget about the "why don't they work so well".

    Trading probabilities

How are we to help you if we don't even know the rules your systems use to enter and exit trades? Right off the cuff, it sounds like a curve-fit to me..i.e., you took out the first trades in the backtest and the results all of a sudden look better...try it in a forward test and see what...

    Dinosaur question

Could it be that you're just using HFT as an excuse? There are plenty of people on this board still making money with traditional charting...myself included. Caveat: I only trade stocks. Maybe stay away from highly leveraged markets like futures and forex

A Strange But Serious Proposition for a Not Yet Profitable Trader

this is wrong on soooo many levels.. 1. you're basically saying you will "trade for food and room" 2. you could be setting yourself up to get robbed as how will you know who you're dealing with? is it that tough out there...
