Don's openings and more for 2005

I'm curious if any of you guys ever try to play the earnings stocks by putting WAY out there envelopes. CCU today would be an example. I took it off my list. But I'm wondering if a superwide envelope might be the trick. Maybe with a reduced position size just to keep the damage from being...

College grad w/ job offer and questions

Don't count me as one of the naysayers because I've made the transition to full time trading. And I'd definitely say that trading has more upside. But let's keep this in perspective. Your office is full of survivor bias. The guys that get it, really get it and are doing quite well. But how...

College grad w/ job offer and questions

It wasn't the engineering that sucked. I enjoyed it for many years. What burned me out was the corporate environment. I hated the fictitious "must make" deadlines that you kill yourself to hit because the product is "late". Well it only takes a couple product cycles to figure out that the...

College grad w/ job offer and questions

If your offer is truly as great as you make it sound I'd lean toward the trading. Just bear in mind you are hurting your marketability in the engineering world. If you find yourself looking for engineering work in less than a year, lie and say you were travelling. Best of luck!

College grad w/ job offer and questions

I'd take the engineering job. Like everyone else said you can always trade later. Speaking as a former engineering manager, I'd be skeptical of a new college grad who traded for a couple years and then came back to engineering. One of my biggest concerns would be that you're back just to...

    Consistently Profitable Day Traders

Dude, you are a walking contradiction. I can Daytrade with the best of them and like I said anytime you would like to give it a go live with witness's I'm ready and waiting. but to tell you the truth in 2.5 years I've had some good stretches 3-4 months at a time and lately the last 5...

Just back from vacation in Mexico so not a lot of trades this month. Does anyone have the HL Camp fair values from last week? The allstocks.com guy was on vacation last week too.

Don's openings and more for 2005

After nagging in the back of my head for a day I figured out there were some errors in my numbers earlier. My net profit that I generated for personal use was correct and remains unchanged. However, my method for backing the numbers out to get gross numbers to report here was incorrect. Here are...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Thanks! I agree it should be an interesting open. I think one problem with big down opens is you get such few fills to the short side. And the ones you do get can often be losers because if they managed an uptick on a big down day it's probably for a reason. One other statistic I didn't...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Inspired by Corey and our Wannabe friend, I thought I'd give a summary of my month Corey-style. I've gotten a lot out of these threads and feel I should give something back. I decided to close my January on the weekend (who wants to do this on a Monday?). Everything here is gross, so you...

Don's openings and more for 2005

If I'm taking liquidity I let my broker's (IB) smart routing get me out via any avenue. A fill's a fill right? If I'm looking for price improvements I route to NYSE. So I keep 2 order lines per stock, one for SMART, one for NYSE. For me that's quicker than watching a montage. Timber Hill...

Should I just delete PG from my OPG list for the near future because of this merger? Just wondering if the Arb guys will kill any opportunity. Or should I leave it in for that reason?

It wasn't lower on NYSE. It was straight up from the open.

Don's openings and more for 2005

Hey Cory, I pulled PG today too. But if you had played it, it opened NYSE at 7:35 at 52.15 and went straight up from there. At least that's what Esignal shows (PG=N). Shred

Don's openings and more for 2005

Off topic, but as I flipped through the channels during halftime of the Steelers game I just about fell off my chair when I saw Bob Bright playing in a TV poker tournament. And then he went on to win! Send my congratulations Bob's way. He said on TV it was his first tournament. Perhaps...

    tampa's Revenge

ROFL! As funny as Tampa is, the dullards that just don't get it are even better. But Angela stepping forward to "declair" her commitment to adult literacy could be the topper.
