What are the most valuable lessons you have learned?

    I’m taking a bath today waiting for a bounce….and waiting….and waiting….

Thx. I actually listened to the earnings call and it wasn’t very promising by my standards. I mean they aren’t going bankrupt any time soon or anything but there was nothing warm and fuzzy about it. It left a huge question mark in my brain on what the market was going to do. Compare that to...

Man…I just can’t get these exits right! I’m still experimenting with new scenarios. I had two that I held onto for the past couple weeks. LESL and TPIC. I bought both for the same reason. They both put out pre-guidance ahead of earnings that was not favorable and they both tanked from in the...

    Newbie venting thread…..

Lol! The why is only relevant for learning something. I would feel better if the why tells me something that I can use in the future to my advantage (I.e. the lesson).

    Newbie venting thread…..

ok noted. I have bought back in and averaged lower for a win successfully several times. Normally I would have rode this one out but since it was so far out of what I call it’s norm, only thing it left me with was there must be something going on that my inexperienced perception wasn’t seeing...

    Newbie venting thread…..

If you look at events surrounding this one, the only real negative I saw on it was they did have one of their executives leave a few weeks back but the reason he left didn’t appear to be anything significant so while I considered it, I didn’t consider it something that would drive it to a new...

    Newbie venting thread…..

Oh sorry this is $TME. When I look at that chart I see a constant swing from about $7 to about $8.50 over and over. That’s what I call 150 point playing field. For this stock I like to enter around $7 or so. On all the ones I play if I can pull off a 50-75 point upward run, I’m good. With a...

    Newbie venting thread…..

My view of it has certainly been reset. The only relevance that 6 months of this stock has for me is that’s a super consistent up down pattern. When I look at that chart I see no less than 6 beautiful money-makers (more actually). In fact I’ve played this stock a few times and made money. As...

    Newbie venting thread…..

That’s the thing…there was nothing! So my initial thought process was that since there is nothing, it WILL come back…which it did…right after I got out of it. But somewhere along the way when it went way under its norm that thought converted to “there might be some new aspect of trading going on...

As an example, this is nearly the perfect stock to me for trading (ironically it’s the one that pissed me off bad enough to whine about in this thread). It’s what it did at the end of this chart that got me. Now that a few days has gone by and I’m getting over it, I now know that my problem was...

    Newbie venting thread…..

Right but the stocks I like to trade move in pretty specific patterns over a few days time one way or another. While I will look at a stocks 1 year chart to get an idea of its general direction, that is not as important to me as it’s consistency in its ups and downs over the last couple months...

    Newbie venting thread…..

It’s stocks. I should have clarified I'm actually more swing trading. Knocking them out in a day would be great but I have a regular job that occupies my time. I like to have them knocked out in a few days and that usually works but many go over a week.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learned?

Well what I meant by that is someone said a sentence in here that has stuck very well: “The only reason I took a big loss is I didn’t take the little loss.” Those words are now etched on my brain. It was a huge mistake for me to let it ride as long as I did. Even though the two that got me good...

What are the most valuable lessons you have learned?

Good point here. It is VERY addicting. I’ve got 3 trades going right now and once they are closed out I plan on taking a cool-down break. So far I’ve got 33 wins and 4 losses. 2 of those losses I simply stayed in them too long. The other two were big time rookie mistakes. In fact one of the...

All good info. Thx! Clearly I need to handle the losses differently and I’ve got some good advice from the board already.

    Heck of a great thought!

Wow! Yes! The wins situation I have been able to counter with “Any win is still better than a loss”. I have some rules I’ve made up along the way and one of those rules is to not be greedy. For you to type what you did makes me think my attitude on this is good. Thx

What are the most valuable lessons you have learned?

Did you define a threshold? One challenge I’ve had is deciding when enough is enough and my two biggest losses the moment I finally bailed they quit dropping. Like within minutes! Then the next day they finally bounced to where if I had waited just a few more minutes they would not have been...

What are the most valuable lessons you have learned?

I haven’t been doing this long but with each trade I try to pick up knowledge along the way. If you-today could go back and tell you-that-just-started-trading something that you’ve learned along the way and would make your life way easier back when you started, what would it be? (Not talking...

    Newbie venting thread…..

Please bear with me. I need to vent. I’m hoping I’m not the only one this seems to happen to. I’ve only been doing this for 3 months. I’ll be retiring in a few years and I’m trying to find something to make money once I retire so I am testing out trading stocks. My personality does not allow me...
