I thought in Brett's example.... There is a "feel" element that cannot be verbalized even though the trader can describe what they are doing... I would imagine the same trader can see what we "thought" is the same things at different times and arrive at different conclusions. :confused:

I think it is good to know someone can be highly successful in ways that I thought unlikely. I always think that doing the usual things everybody does is a dangerous thing and that goes to trading style or method.

I think it could be more of a problem of convictions... It works for them because it is theirs.

I think pure discretionary means you have no set of rules that you apply the same way every time although you might have some kind of framework. Talk about mystical power... today's actions in ES moves have a lot of Fibs in it... 1.272 final extension at a 1.28 implied volatility band which...

I trade both and that forces me to take choice #2... My 80% discretionary trading is also a spin-off system layered on top of my mechanical system since I can catch my setup better than the computer.

Some systems are best traded discretionarily and some discretions are best systematized... :confused:

It's too general... not enough for me to trade.

I like my order entry and a chart or two on a notebook... like the battery backup and all the other charts on desktops.

This is very market specific... I am only talking about intraday trading ES which tends to swing back and forth... You have to be in tune with the tape and you might not necessarily scale in the full position all the time... all depends on price actions and time duration. Then again you don't...

I was taught a way to fix this problem and that is to wait for a pullback to exit... But it can get you killed big time when you are not focused. Like I said, too many decisions for my taste.

If you are talking about the squares (levels) - one within another, and the diagonals when looking from the top, that is NOT a spiral to me. In fact, I have only been able to find two more modern examples of number spiral (e.g. Ulam Spiral) which do not seem to have any historical link to Gann...
