How does Citibank have a 'profit' in a quarter it gets a welfare check?

Did any of you Citigroup bashers even bother reading the article before you started typing? They operated at a profit for the first 2 months of the year -- thats it? Whats the big deal about that? Is it really that hard to believe that when a major money center bank was able to subtract all...

How does Citibank have a 'profit' in a quarter it gets a welfare check?

You sound more like someone who is bitter because your C short isn't working out rather than a concerned citizen, but even if your civic concern is legit, you still sound like a misguided concerned citizen nonetheless. How you were able to conclude that a LOAN -- that is not only being paid...

looking for a future trading company with reliable data

It depends... how much are you willing to pay in commissions, per month, and what (if any) kind of volume do you plan to do? All those factors go in to finding the right clearing relationship. If you want something reliable, but don't do a lot of volume, I'd go to Velocity because you can get...

    BAC and C

Whichever one had the cheapest account and wire fees, and had branches and atm's that were most convenient for me. Your money is equally safe no matter what FDIC insured bank you put your money at.

looking for a future trading company with reliable data

X_TRADER, CQG, or PhotonTrader. I personally would never recommend NinjaTrader, but others here swear by it. Most firms support X_TRADER, CQG, and Ninja, so you really can take your pick.

    Lease or Buy?

Thats a great point... Processors are a good example... Quite often you end up paying 30 or 40% more for a CPU thats 10 or 20% faster. I typically look for the processors that have the largest FSB, and then buy the slowest one out of the bunch. Stuff like that can save you a lot.

    Lease or Buy?

My advice on trading machines, is spend as little money as possible to get the best bang for the buck you can. If you know how to put it together yourself, you can get a 3 or 4gb barebones system for between $150 - $200, and you can add a 1tb hard drive for less that $100 and a cd-rom for...

    updating trading station

To say that "sometimes my computer freezes up while I'm in a trade" is like saying that a million different things could be going on... it depends on lots of other variables and information that you haven't provided... especially considering the fact that you're using Fidelity. Could be...

CitiFX Pro now offers FDIC insurance for your deposits

I'm not an FX trader, so I have no idea whether or not they're a good or bad place to trade with, but I got this email/spam and thought it might be an interesting fyi for those who do trade forex and are unhappy with their current bucketshop. [/b]

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

+1 And don't forget how its impossible to have a constructive conversation with someone who insists on misrepresenting what other people say and consistently puts words in other people's mouths.

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

I completely agree... true gambling events are governed by chance... the markets are governed by supply and demand.

Seperate PC for Trading and Other

Good point... make sure you're trading at a firm where they automatically liquidate your open positions when they decline a certain amount of money, just in case you become incapacitated. Both of the firms I trade with will automatically liquidate my open positions if any of them hit a hard...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

The debate switched to "chance" because the first two definitions of gambling both indicated that the results had to be dictated by chance... so obviously the definition of it became important. But fine... for the sake of argument lets just say we take your definition.... that its gambling...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

I never said that... you did. I try to do my best to avoid making sweeping generalizations and blanket statements.

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Although I do find it quite amusing, and rather fitting that when people talk about "being on the good side of a coin flip" that they're usually referring to having a 55% to 45% slight edge... which ironically, is almost the exact margin of "no" to "yes" votes in this thread's poll results.

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Yet again, you misunderstood my answer to your question. Its not a gamble because the outcome was uncertain, it was a gamble because in your scenario (1) I personally don't know enough about the intricacies of football and don't follow it well enough to have information that is going to give me...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Well it depends on whether or not you're asking my personal opinion, or the dictionary-definition argument I was referencing in my post. My personal opinion (which was made clear early on meant nothing), is that anytime you're getting paid more than the risk you're taking, its not gambling...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

That's actually a very good point... cars and motorcycles have a lot of similarities in the sense that they both have wheels and can get you from place to place... but most people wouldn't say a car is a motorcycle... airplanes and helicopters have a lot of similarities in the sense that they...

Being your own forex broker - possible?

I'm literally cracking up because my first career was in computer programming, so I really appreciated all the OS comments, but when I first started trading my first question was pretty much along the same lines --"hey, trading's great but how do I get in on this commission thing too."...
