    ES Journal - 2012

Lol, this is true, buying the dips off the '09 lows would've worked well for many years.

    ES Journal - 2012

Every dip has been bought over the past two weeks - that can't continue. That said it also doesn't mean that it makes sense to start selling every dip. If I had to guess I'd say Friday's close will be lower than Monday's open, but chances are I'll be wrong.:p

Backtesting options strategy without option historical data?

FWIW I think it can be a useful exercise as you'll see how results change based on what inputs you provide. You can get a sense for how your p/l evolves and what influences it. It's also possible to develop a system, but it'll have to be compared to what the actual IV was during that time...

    Financial books give away (free)

Don't mean to sidetrack, but over Thanksgiving I was told to read Dying of Money, supposed to be a particularly good book on a similar topic. http://www.amazon.com/Dying-Money-Jens-Parsson/dp/1457502666

    I'm New

Smith & Wollensky used to accept Citi shares, maybe short IBM long Citi? I guess we can agree it'd be pretty awesome if brokers calculated margin based on the "it's not a loser until you get out" model.:D

    I'm New

There can be situations where you show a mtm loss, but if held to expiration a profit - it's a bit different than showing a loss on a long ES position. Though I agree with you, a loss is a loss, mtm or otherwise, just feel that the "it's not a loser until you get out" mentality is more...

Why is the VIX so low?

Reminds me of a Louis CK skit about being white - shorting vol is like being white, eventually you'll have to pay hard for the past, but until then, wheeee!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4f9zR5yzY

Is trading E-minis a zero sum game or not?

They are accounted for in the market price of the contract (as are interest rates). This should help: http://indexarb.com/dividendAnalysis.html

Purely Mechanical Option Trading Part 2

On a relative basis yea, but not necessarily on an absolute basis (i.e. all financials have a negative return but you're buying the least negative financial stock). You're right in that it's buying 'strong' things and selling 'weak' things and is more momentum vs. mean reversion. m2c.

John Paulson having another bad year

...except for his clients where he guarantees their losses and doesn't charge them mgmt fees. He also probably loses more with a 1% loss than most will ever make. Not saying the guy is a saint, but let's not just make shit up.

John Paulson having another bad year

^^^^doood, clients can also invest in his gold fund, he's only ~50% of the fund. Ok?! ...say what you want about Paulson but he trades his money the same as client money, and I'd also bet he's given back plenty of his money in recent losses.

Successful Trading and Compounding - On Steroids

This is impossible, we all do and will continue to make mistakes, your plan can't rely on operating error free. Aren't you trading multiple ES contracts with a 26k acct? If so, imo, your only mistake is overleveraging....and arguably trading es rth (why do you think you have edge there)...

atticus' "ship it" vol trading journal

See, this is America's obesity problems catching up to us - the prevalence of fat finger errors in today's financial markets are too common....we, as a nation, need to trim the fat.:p

are there any day trading funds?

I'm under the impression this is kind of what Gilder Gagnon Howe does. AFAIK, a broker will manage the account in an aggressive manner looking for strong growth - struck me as kind of investing your money with a "daytrader". http://www.gghc.com/ ...that said, I've known some people to be...

Cooltraderdude's TopstepTrader Combine (daily trade report and journal)

m2c - Basketball's a decent analogy. Shots are like trades. Driving to the lane for a layup is a risk/return. You're trading the chance of getting fouled, blocked, turnover for a chance at getting close to the basket. Everyone wants to be able to shoot from 1ft away, and everyone will try to...
