    Seasonal spreads

I was just commenting on kahais question with regards to differences between Scarrtrading.com and MRCI - when history repeats itself (as it eventually does) it's of course with a twist. The timing and size of moves are different, and sometimes all the spreaders are caught the wrong way as with...

    Seasonal spreads

Here's an overview of closed and open positions at the end of the month: I've used the closing prices from the exchanges, but with regards to the open spread in wheats - it's just not realistic. I don't know why it settled like that, it should have been around -7 instead of -4 so there's...

    Seasonal spreads

I only have the 15Y MRCI seasonal spread chart with 2004 as the latest year (no subscription yet). These look different, with Scarrtradings 15y chart (from 1992 to 2006) finishing the move Sep 1st and then showing a sideways volatile movement until mid October. The 1990-2004 MRCI seasonal chart...

    Seasonal spreads

Yes, we might be talking about two things at once here - you're right. I think what might happen is that hedgefunds and prop traders will step in and provide electronic liquidity that floor traders traditionally provides, meaning we'll just get more volume alltogether.

    Seasonal spreads

It was a mistake to not qualify my statement with regards to size. With ag spreads you'll often have a problem with more than 3-5 contracts, and that's the whole thing with floor traders: they provide the liquidity at a price of some ticks (which of course is fair if they're not too greedy)...

I've closed the Cotton spread entered on June 12th, timestop. Sold 1 May 08, Bought 1 Oct 07 CT Cotton @ 0.595 - CLOSED - PROFIT 0.0035 which is 175 usd. Originally intended for an exit at the end of August, this spread looks like it's moving - slowly. Return on margin was 58%.

Hi SupremeTrader - thanks for taking part in the thread, it's very valuable with experienced contribution and I hope you'll continue to add value! THE NEED FOR BACKUP BROKER You quite rightly emphasize the need for a backup broker. I actually don't have one and I know it is crazy. My venture...

    Seasonal spreads

Looking at the 20Y seasonal of Nov/Feb Unleaded from MRCI ending in 2004 the main move is from about July 20th to Aug 15th. (From their encyclopedia). The move in the HO spread startet between 0.06 and 0.07 in the beginning of June, so it's already travelled a bit. It's right now in a...

The holding period for the RB spreads is late Aug/early Sep for the RB spreads and well into October for Heating Oil.

    Seasonal spreads

My profit target is about 1.500 usd per contract in the RB spreads, and about 2.700 usd per contract in HO. My profit calculations are quite crude so who knows how it'll turn out. Btw right now it's possible to get much better entries in RB! I'm basing these calculations of an account size at...

    Seasonal spreads

Sorry, I forgot to answer to this part of your post. This trade is a seasonal pattern of the carrying charge in Wheat. From 1986 to 2005 it was profitable 18 out of 20 years. I plan to exit around August 20th. I don't usually post that much about each trade, since it's not fresh in my mind. I...

    Seasonal spreads

I've now worked the account up a bit, and I've also been working a bit on position sizing, risk and so forth. I'm planning to go into details regarding this in a couple of weeks (when my holiday draws to an end). Previously I usually entered one-lot positions, but now it's much more common with...

Just to clarify with regards to the new RB positions: I'm looking for a position of two contracts in each of those spreads.

I've been on the road since Tuesday, and I've left in a few GTC limit orders while I've been unable to access my computer. Here's what's happened: Sold 2 May 08, Bought 2 Dec 07 ZC Corn @ 25 - CLOSED - PROFIT 10 which is 1.000 usd. Sold 1 Dec 07, Bought 1 Sep 07 ZC Corn @ 14 1/4 - CLOSED -...

bigbiscuit: No, it's not possible to do this with TWS. I wish IB would do something with this, as it really would be helpful. As far as I know none of the front-ends that support IB has this feature as well. I know it can be done with X-Trader Pro from TT and also with Eccospreader and CQG...
