    Distressed Debt Investing

Gotcha, I was wondering if that would be the approach taken. Being a small fund I wasn't sure if there would be enough volume to get a controlling interest for that or not. Not that I have any plans or ability to do that, just learning.

So slightly random question, figured I'd just ask it here first instead of creating a new thread. I found a small closed end fund that is pretty heavily discounted. All its holdings are public except one which makes up a considerable portion of the portfolio. Coincidentally, the fund is trading...

Federal Agents Searching Caterpillar Offices in Illinois

I bet somebody with friends in the DOJ or IRS made some solid money on a short. If it drops to $59, I'd consider buying for myself. Pending no crazy news that's going to significantly affect the company of course. That would put their market cap below revenue I believe.

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

I've only been 25-50% vested since before the election. I've managed to hang with the market thankfully with some lucky picks, but have been kicking myself for not having more vested throughout all this. BUT at the same time, I haven't seen much that I've really wanted to buy either so just...

    Corporate Spot Bond Prices

What broker do you use? I might have misunderstood your question, but most will show the various rate calculation: Coupon Yield to a maturity Yield to Worst Etc. based on the current prices. I know Etrade calculates it based on both bid and ask.

That's quite the threat at the end of the article. That guy sounds like a great team player lol.

How are my orders getting jumped in the queue at a given Limit price?

So I'm not qualified to answer, but I think there are two options that can be at play here. One is using the smart routed order. If I recall correctly, the way it goes to the exchange might mess with your queue positioning as it seeks to get the fill. The other is I believe, resting orders? Not...

Warren Buffett tripled investment in Apple

Well of course he wants to play that close to his chest. Look at how these stocks react to news he bought a big stake. Big players want to keep it non public until they've acquired their desired position typically.

Is it dangerous not to specify that you are employed in your broker account?

When I worked in a credit union, it was shocking how much more often people with lower credit scores had insurance claims (we had to sign off on the checks since they had a loan). Had a few people a couple months behind on their payments whose cars were stolen....miraculously was always found...

I noticed that as well. One of the closest to maturing, the 10/2017 bond is trading lower than some of those for 2018/19, I believe several of those are secured though and the 2017 one is not so just pricing in that additional risk.

Thanks for the insight there. I agree, I would have zero expectations of it being a turnaround play. Like you said either a capital structure play or just hoping they survive through the maturity of your bond....not too confident with the second option!

I haven't dug into them much, but they definitely concern me as it seems Sears has been in the news forever about their constant decline. I'll have to take a look though and see. Maybe somebody else can chime in if they have looked into them.

    Credit Cards

Not to beat a dead horse, but there is also an argument against using cash for some stores. The less they have to deal with cash, the faster they can process customers/fewer check out lanes they need, they eliminate counting errors, AND they eliminate the cost associated with dealing in cash...

    Credit Cards

I was literally just thinking of this and how there is one kind of near me that if you go in to buy a drink and don't buy more than $5 worth of stuff (if using a card) they add a quarter to your total for the credit card fee. They also have a tendency to make mistakes (not in your favor) when...

    Credit Cards

If everybody added 2% to their prices to cover this fee, wouldn't you? Or would you keep your prices the same and then take the 2% hit for the fee when they use a card? If you use a card with cash back, you get the majority of this markup back in rewards more than likely where as the cash buyer...
