    When to quit?

I started "SOES" trading in '97. I set more of a time limit than a capital limit (I wouldn't allow myself to loose too much). After several months, my $100,000 account was at $99,500, and I threw in the towel. I didn't feel that I could trade part time (I still don't think I could). I kept...

    IB News

How do you know? Not that I doubt you, but I would like to increase some of my entry sizes and not have to liquidate at 3:55 if I am over the overnight maintenance requirement. Are you currently over the old limit, or did you receive some confirmation from IB? Thanks

    IB News

Def, I'm still excited about the new margin requirements, but haven't seen anything from IB on it  . Is it still supposed to happen today? Thanks in advance.

4:1 all the time is excellent! That will probably allow me to remain retail :) . I haven't received notice though, and the requirements on my TWS still show a larger requirement for overnight.

    Can you buy "the index"?

You could set up a basket with Interactive Brokers (or probably others) and buy or sell all of the stocks within a given index. I think you may find that slippage will have a large impact on your system though - unless you are selling into strength and buying on weakness. The real world has a...

    Quicken to Esignal

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like it will probably do what I need. I guess I'll give it a try.

    Quicken to Esignal

I have a couple of questions for anyone that might know. Can you open more than one session of e-signal from the same machine - I usually have three sessions of QQL open and just click to move from one to the other. Also, has anyone used the DDE? The description of DDE on their web-site was a...

    IB crossed markets on TWS

I think that if you look, you will find the crossed quotes eminate from AMEX most of the time. Just IGNORE AMEX. They are a bunch of thieves, and their quotes don't mean much. NYSE Specialists aren't much better some times. Look at Island, and you will know where the real market is.

Quicken Quotes Live to be discontinued

I haven't received this notice yet  . That's a bummer because I use their feed to run a worksheet I use every day. Where should I go that has DDL and comparable service?

    Connection problems

TWS is working fine for me in Idaho - trading stocks though. Good luck. I did have a little trouble with Quicken Quotes Live though.

    IB login problem

I had this exact problem. I had to replace the nic (I can't remember what brand) with a 3-com. Everything was great then. IB has a list of NIC's that work I think. I know it doesn't make sense, but this seems to be a somewhat common problem. Good luck.

    something different?

I have been having problems with slow loading on this site for the last couple of days too. Using cable modem with Netgear router in Idaho.

    IB Execution Speed

I don't know about everybody, but I know I would be better off. And, it would be much more fair and transparent! I would love to see the specialists disappear, or have a system like SuperSoes that would execute against their quotes INSTANTLY without intervention.

    IB Execution Speed

IB's routing is generally very fast. I have traded QQQ using BEST and ISLAND. I prefer island - it is pretty much instant. However, you do give up the chance for price improvement. I find that the specialists have a harder time manipulating QQQ though, so price improvement is usually...

    How many traders here actually

I trade my own retail account from home, and it's my only source of income. I have done a lot of things to make a living, and I probably like this the most - just hope I can keep making enough to live on and grow my account. I don't know anyone who trades his/her own account full time either...

    Flat Panel Monitors

Edil, Thanks for the information. That's not good news. I guess I'll see how it's working in a few weeks (I have 30 days to return it without any hassle). Let me know if you have trouble again.

    A no-brainer day!

Didn't the long side of your spreads move up as much as the short side (or hopefully more)? Or am I thinking of the wrong kind of spread?

    Flat Panel Monitors

I got this monitor up and running, and I am pretty happy with it so far.

    Flat Panel Monitors

I just bought a new 18.1" LCD at my local Costco. It is a Sony SMD-M81, and it was $799.99. There is a $100 mail-in rebate from Sony right now, so the final cost will be $700. It seemed like a good deal, and they said I could return it within 30 days "no questions asked" if I didn't like it...
