Is DayTrading Stocks Even Worth it Anymore?

I haven't read this whole thread, but I will add my .02 anyway. I tried day-trading in '97 and I didn't like it much. Commissions were so high that you had to trade 1000 shares at a time to make money, and the MM's were worse than specialists. I traded for about 7 or 8 months, and lost about...

    E-signal

Here is an example. Right now, IB's market depth shows bids of 28.62 and28.98, and offers of 30.30 and30.66 for AEP. ESignal qoute show bid of .01 and ask of 29.79, and my worksheet (being fed by eSignal) shows .01X89.70

    E-signal

Andy, Thanks for the reply. I believe that this probably is the data making it to my spread sheet. I understand that it is legitimate, but it is not the NBBO. For example, there might be bids at 20, 25, and 25.50 and offers at 25.75, 28, and 28.5 for a stock. For some reason, eSignal will...

    E-signal

I complained about this a couple of months ago, but nothing seems to have changed. I use eSignal to feed an excel worksheet, and the BID and ASK that it feeds before the opening are almost always off. The last price is usually correct, and the correct quotes seem to be present in the quote...

    Buying Power Increase...

When I increase my position size, I try to prepare for a maximum draw-down at the new size. In other words, I don't want to increase my position size so much that a draw down would wipe out a large share of my realized profits. Even though the new size should eventually be profitable after the...

    What do you call yourself?

I tell people I trade stocks, and leave the rest to their imagination. If they express concern over how I must be getting killed, I just tell them that the methods I use don't really rely on the overall direction of the market. If they have any real interest, I have a discussion with them.

Einstein's puzzle: Can you sovle it?

I solved it, but I had to make the assumption that the person with the cats and the person with the water that lived next to the person who smoked blends weren't the same. Otherwise, the cat could be in the first or third house, and therefore the fish could be in the first or third house. Did...

    Trading Vs doing business

I try to approach trading as a business. I have had some retail businesses, and I don't think it is really easy to make money in either one, but both can abe profitable. I enjoy trading more - no employees, lower overhead, lower fixed expenses, etc.

    Mine seems to be normal.

    Stereo speakers

I suppose you are right, but I can't afford what true audiophiles would buy:( , but I would appreciate some advice from an expert. I am paying either $699 or $650, and I chose Paradigm studio 40s because I liked their sound the best for anything I heard under $1,000. I just don't know if the...

    Stereo speakers

I have a question for any audiophiles out there. I am getting a pair of Paradigm Studio 40 speakers. I can get the pair off the floor today (they are 6 months old) for a $50 discount, or I can get a brand new pair that will be here in two weeks. Which would you do and why? Thanks for any help.

    Broker devisification

I don't like to get my capital split up. I try to make as efficient use of my capital as possible, and it would be too cumbersome for me to be making trades in two or three accounts at the same time. I suppose it would be good to have a back up broker, but I have used IB for about a year and a...

    NYSE & Nasdaq

I trade both, but more nas than nyse. I voted for nas, but it depends on how you define tradable. I like to know that I will get an instant fill if I lift the offer or hit the bid. I also like to know that the quotes I am looking at are real and that I will be filled at the price I see. I...

    I Luv Tws!!

Couldn't you just do this with limit orders? I guess if you wanted a definite fill you would have to have a market order though wouldn't you.

    Mixed Lots

Thanks for the reply docartz, that makes me feel better about getting the same executions I get with round lots.

    Mixed Lots

I guess I will just give mixed lots a try and see what happens. Any input would be appreciated though.

    Mixed Lots

Does the NYSE specialist treat mixed lots (150 shares for example) the same as round lots (100 shares)? Is there any difference in execution? Thanks for the help.

    IB/cybertrader/ameritrade...

IB is definitely direct access. The TWS takes a little getting used to, but I really like it now - it is very fast. I don't know about the other two. Good luck.

    Pure Logic Trading Membership

I don't know this man, but before I would pay anyone to mentor me, I would insist on seeing proof of his profitability - preferably tax returns. I would be skeptical of anyone who claims to be a great trader but earns his money doing something else. I have also noticed that it seems to be...

    EX Dividend

Thanks for the responses. I think def is right, and that explains the price action that was confusing me. I thought the dividend was around $2, but I see that it is actually about 50 cents, and that is how much the stock is down. Thanks again.
