    Macfutures rumours

I'm not prepared to commit libel for the sake of spreading gossip - I'm only really interested in talking to people with info. If you haven't got any, I'm sorry, I've got nothing to add.

    Macfutures rumours

I've been hearing some rumours about Macfutures. Not sure I can post them in public as very unconfirmed but if anyone wants to do an information exchange please PM me. Especially any Mac guys in London or Chicago.

Funniest thing ever seen at a prop firm

Not prop but close enough I reckon. I started out of uni on the trading floor at a small and somewhat rubbish IB. One day one of the grad class I was in was challenged to eat 100 chicken nuggets, ten quid for each one he ate but ten the other way for each one he left. About 25 in he's going ok...

    Nymex eMiNYs

Has anyone been trading these? It seems a bit odd to me that the exchange is going to clear them through ClearPort, surely that isn't ideal for the retail market? Or is it true that, as some people say, retail is the ugly duckling at Nymex?

TT vs ESpeed injunction denied - Judge says TT patent valid

Got to be careful what I say here, but my sources are suggesting that eSpeed are much less bothered by the injunction ruling than original reports suggested they should be. The document that latest story was based on had eSpeed saying that the case was "still in its early stages" or something...

TT vs ESpeed injunction denied - Judge says TT patent valid

That's the public version - the private one has a few added remarks (where there are blank spaces on that document) that add slightly more weight to TT's side of things. I'd like to post them but I'm not allowed - not *that* big a deal anyway to be honest.

TT vs ESpeed injunction denied - Judge says TT patent valid

It's available via the Northern Illinois District Court website, http://www.ilnd.uscourts.gov/PUBLIC/Dkt_Info/docket_sheets.cfm, but you need to register and the wait is pretty long. If anyone is particularly keen to see it, PM me an email address and I can send on the PDF version...

TT vs ESpeed injunction denied - Judge says TT patent valid

I'm deputy editor on FO Week and I wrote most of our TT stories. The court ruling essentially says that TT's patents are valid and eSpeed is infringing, but as its market share is so small compared to TT there is no evidence of irreperable harm. However, it suggests that eSpeed and others should...

Trading Technologies awarded patent for DOM

As I've never been a pit trader I wonder if anyone could help confirm or deny a story I was told. Apparently traders used to draw their own 'Mercury bar' style displays of price and volume. I'm interested in whether this could be considered evidence that the Mercury bar, as patented recently by...

Trading Technologies awarded patent for DOM

"Harris developed this technology with TT and TT brought it to market to help the industry, and patented the product to protect it. Electronic trading was in existence for over 10 years (including throughout the dot-com era) before TT released MD Trader and the financial industry had nothing...

    EurexUS, will it work?

Just short of 5% of treasury futures volume yesterday. Does anyone who's watching it through the day know if it's consistent volume, or a few big trades? Care to hazard a guess about whether it's stickable?

Let's get real about prison abuse

This isn't "hazing" is it? From The Times: This weekend Kelly Tilford, the British woman who raised the alarm about Bartlam’s film, described the scenes she saw in four photographs developed last May. “The first one was this Iraqi who was naked and being held up in this big net,” said...

Let's get real about prison abuse

Consider yourself corrected. Unless by "assualted" you mean "taken to hospital". The problem here surely, is that lingering issue that we were meant to be the good guys. Unfortunately when you invade a war to "give people freedom" you have to conform to higher standards than you expect of...

    Interesting, from The Times

CONSTITUTIONALISM In this context that means government restricted by law, what we would call the separation of powers, with elected parliaments rather than government by kings, sheikhs or tribal leaders. The constitutionalists ignored the concept of Paradise and argued that what mattered...
