What is the best way to reduce the commission costs

If you use ECNs and MMs correctly, you can knock off .0022 to .0027 from your per share rate. Not passing thru rebates is a big downside to IB. Everyone should be able to negotiate pass thru ECN rebates with their broker. I'll give you my stats: I am retail and pay .004 +/- ECN rebates...

    Self-Perception

I trade 3 separate accounts. I have margin in my day-trading account and I usually end the day in that account flat. I also trade in every time frame. I've held less than 30 seconds and more than 3 years. My point was that no matter what you may think about your success/failure in a trade...

Okay - some things that humble me. I'll add to this as these things occur. -- Took a 2k share position on a 12 dollar stock. Added 2k as it went to 13 and held. Got annoyed waiting for movement (low volume and no action) - kept thinking I should take my 50k and plop it elsewhere. I did. Sold...

    Traders having ADD Part 2

Interesting... My problem is the female rear-end (aka aSS). Whenever talking to an attractive woman I seem to keep wondering about what she might look like on all fours... I admit I have a problem - where I do I seek counseling?

What should my "trigger" be for taking a break?

Not sure what type of time scale you are on but taking an entry in 1/3rd's (or quarters - in terms of shares) works for me. The first third is a test, if the behaviour is good then add the rest. Push it hard when you "know" the trade is really working and don't add anything if the trade is junky...

    Natural Gas

Silly hurricane.... causing all this commotion in those illiquid energy stocks. Anyone catch that move on NGAS last two days:D :D ?

What should my "trigger" be for taking a break?

None of your suggestions work from my experience. There is a solution that works for me: Define your setups and use discipline to only trade those setups. It sounds like you are overtrading and looking for trades that aren't really there. Just my .02. Regards, Mike

    Self-Perception

So you measure your own self-worth/accomplishement by your PnL? That seems a bit harsh considering how challenging certain days can be. Some days, not losing too much money is the most critical aspect. Today was a tough day for me. Kept taking small losses and small winners all day and was...

    AMD 64 X2 3800 for multitask trading

I'm trying to clear up a misconception and I do not believe I am doing a disservice. If others believe this then I'll shutup. These are not blanket statements and if you had a background in what I am talking about you would understand that chip makers are simply trying to get you to buy more...

    AMD 64 X2 3800 for multitask trading

In the OS context you are correct - you are utilizing a form of concurrency. I am going a bit further to the register transfer level where a compiled instruction is actually executed. By this time it is either in machine/assembly format or in a proprietary (MIPS) format or something similar...

    AMD 64 X2 3800 for multitask trading

I have little experience in software development. My knowledge base is from application specific microprocessor development and general trends in the industry. Software developers use multi-threaded in a different context - you can create an application with multiple threads and use...

    AMD 64 X2 3800 for multitask trading

Do you even know what a multi-threaded application is? I'm not talking about running servers, databases, multiple applications or rendering web pages (this is trivial). If you are a single user on your home computer and your are going to do these tasks simultaneously (and believe the...

    AMD 64 X2 3800 for multitask trading

I wasn't clear - I was referring to applications only - not the actual OS. Yes, if the OS can do it, then two threads can be run simultaneuosly if they are not from the same application. Mike

    AMD 64 X2 3800 for multitask trading

This is the point that presents the most confusion. The OS itself will have many threads and depending on the sophistication of the OS, different threads will run on the various (two) processors. The OS has to be designed to do this. As far as I know, windows has to be a multiprocessor version...

    AMD 64 X2 3800 for multitask trading

Guys, I've designed computational systems hardware/electronics in my former career as an EE and there are a few things I'd like to clear up so you do not spend un-necessary money on marketing gimmicks. Dual Cores/ Dual processors are useful in multithreaded applications when you are doing...

    Rebates?

Switch brokers. You should be able to negotiate stuff like this if you've been a client for a while. For example I am retail. I get .004 per share and all ECN pass throughs plus access to MM's who charge nothing for taking liquidity (some slippage will happen though, depends on...

    I trade like I play golf ?

I get waaay more frustrated playing golf. A bad shot just really drives me nuts because I usually know what I'm doing wrong while in my backswing (other times I'm just mentally not focused). I know what the shot is going to look like before I see the ball flying away... With trading I can...

    Middle class revolt

I plan on moving there within the next five years FYI. Maybe the opinions I recieved were from a biased sample. Here's a fact: I filled out a visa request that stated in plain english: "... in demand of a technological workforce...". A point system was in effect where you had to...
