    The difference is leverage and number of trades. I am comfortable with about 20x leverage, some are comfortable with much more. That represents that degree of magnification of gains (or losses) on pre-leveraged capital. There is no way a portfolio of stocks can do that....it's a different game...

    A 24% return on an investment portfolio is a good return. For a full time active day trader it does represent a waste of time....apples and oranges.

    Yes, no one really knows what the percentage of successful traders is. Estimates are taken from broker data on account blowouts. I blew out 3 before I "got it", doubt if I'm unusual. We who do trade for a living know that it's a tough learn but that it's doable.

    A good trader trading a single futures contract can certainly make 50k on 5k. A very skilled trader can trade multiple contracts with 5k and earn multiples of the OP target. A newbie will dissipate that 5k like a fart in a hurricane.

    I don't live in "the swamp lands" just did undergraduate at LSU but I agree on fiber...other than that live where you want to live, not where it's cheap or expensive. Just make more money if it's the latter.

    I wouldn't pay too much attention to the DOM levels. If you want to get a feel for actual transactions, put up a time and sales window.

    More than a few times, I've walked away from a choppy market to come back hours later to find the cleanest stair-step patterns you would want.
