this is not over guys--more downside

way too many people shorted or bought puts yesterday if you look at put/call ratios and volatility index. Those are going to be squeezed real hard especially out of the money puts and they will not get anything and the markets will only drop more after expiration or after they have closed those...

Cramer says it's just bad programming

there was some bad programming/trading in the system, but not sure how much we can blame that on the Dow 546 points drop. We need to find out the extent of system errors. May or may not have been as important as Cramer thinks, but not sure we should dismiss what Cramer says (I am no fan of his)...

    Semis-Breakout Time?

I think the breakout is suspect as it comes with upgrades of semis when we know just last month there were all sorts of issues with AMD and others. As it comes right at the downsloping trendline, I wonder if someone put on a large short position recently and was taken to the cleaners today...

Why the heck did I not get into Futures sooner ? Swing Trading stocks is for Birds !!

if you have a trading system that works, then you have nothing to worry about. But if you are hoping to work out a system as you go along, then you might lose everything. Remember trading futures is about risk management. If you ever find you are in trouble in the future (I hope it never happens...

    Secrets of the Temple >>>

Trading without a stop is suicide. Of course the stop should be a reasonable distance from ATR otherwise you are inviting the greedy market makers to take you out. They are good at "fishing"! http://lauristonletter.blogspot.com/

Dow 13000 a piece of cake

We may eventually get there, but I think we need a little cooling off or time-out here for the bulls to rest and get some energy for the next run. I am actually short-term bearish, but being a bear has not been good lately. Bulls have been running wild, but it's getting crazy...

Does anyone *make a living* swing trading or long term investing?

I say Amen to that! Excellent comments, I can relate to that completely. That is what swing trading is all about. Patience patience patience! Yes, you can make a living swing trading, but be prepared to slog through a great deal to find what works for you as an individual...

Once again bulls continue to win

Bernanke had to deliver positive news. Worldwide markets are very bullish, it is not just a US phenomenon. Too much money lying about with no home to park except equities. Leverage being used to the hilt. Will it ever end? YES. When? No one can tell. In the meantime, better not to argue with the...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

this momentum since July 2006 will take a big event to derail. I have tried playing the short side recently and it has not worked very well. I am thinking the next pullback I will jump in as well. Keep doing that until it stops working. This is insane, but no need to argue with insanity...

Watch For Tricks In The Vix

I follow the VIX too and at the moment it is really stretched downside from it's 10day moving average which implies a pullback in the markets could happen in next 2-3 days. Pullback or sideways consolidation. This indicator used this way has not failed in the last 6 months...

    CNBC $1,000,000 challenge

i wish they would have better rules. being able to trade anything under the stock sun is insane. Penny stocks can move like a yoyo, not fair to serious traders, but I guess when you are an advertising channel you dont care about the trading, you care about the eyeballs!! also I wish they would...

    Market Under Dstribution....

if this market is under distribution, then it is pretty low volume so far and nothing to worry about. We have not even had a "Dow down 100pts" type of day that stuck. Every dip is being bought and bears like me are getting frustrated by the lack of bear follow-thru or strength. I am hoping...

    Who's your trading idol?

    T. Boone Pickens, who else? Made more than any other trader/investor/manager etc. last year on crude oil trades. Cool cat http://lauristonletter.blogspot.com/

    Futures or Stocks?! The truth

futures great if you obey your stops with great discipline. lower capital requirements. Stocks great especially if you are using margin and options to hedge or leverage some more. Stick to small contract sizes with futures and you are mostly OK http://lauristonletter.blogspot.com/

    Shortsellers, I need your advice!

I replied to you privately by email, so you can delete your post here if you want. I personally have never had a problem shorting but that is because I usually go for big caps and ETFs and they are very liquid and some of the big caps are except from uptick rule even since last year I think. But...

    Shortsellers, I need your advice!

Just make sure the uptick was on the bid and not the ask. Is it a very liquid stock? Just name it, it won't matter if people know what it was! A few weeks ago I bought TXN puts and then when I was selling for a small profit I put in an order at 1.7 vs. bid of 1.5 and ask of 1.6. The price never...

If We Have Heavy Volume Soon, Look For A Major Breakdown

I hope we get a drop here, I've been waiting for 3-4 days for this since last week, been warning about VIX on my blog http://lauristonletter.blogspot.com/ until I feel embarrassed because nothing happened!! Well, we have dropped 30pts on the Dow and still the VIX and other volatility indexes...

National Semi Sees Steeper 3Q Sales Drop

oh yeah, it's becoming a joke now. AMD warns, now NSM, but the semis remain analysts' favorite! Somewhere down the line they'll have to face reality. Inventories are piling on sky high, see what SNDK revealed! So much for global liquidity http://lauristonletter.blogspot.com/
