OTC markets - Why some brokers like IB blocked ``unsolicited quotes`` stocks ?

Yeah, IB has some mistakes where the stock is Pink / Current and should be tradable but is flagged incorrectly and blocked under that dumb new SEC rule. I was told they’re working on it. I know OTC Markets is also changing 50-100 stock classifications every day, so it’s not surprising most...

Someone posted this on reddit - coming from IB

Thanks for the clarification. I’ve had my share of buy-ins and trading on the short side, and I don’t think I can recall running into that error. More often is the one where I get blocked from re-shorting the day I get a buy-in, but that’s a different rule.

No, that’s different. A lot of otc stocks aren’t easily traded any more under that new rule that started Tuesday, but it’s nothing to do with OP.

The IRS wants all bank accounts over $600 to be reported ??

They aren’t “false” red flags. It’s so they can bring Lois Lerner out of retirement to use the new doubled in size IRS to selectively target donors or political opponents of the ruling party. Without any warrants or cause, like they have now for IRS investigations. They can already get all...

Wash sale and similar correlated assets question

It’s legal to trade of course, the question is deductibility vs the wash sale rule delaying your loss being realized. The above link gets to the heart of the question from OP - what is “substantially identical” and potentially also what is a “security”? On the “substantially identical” front...

    Directly routed midprice orders

“midprice” is the name of an IB algo. You want one of the “Peg” order types if you’re routing it yourself to a specific exchange. Try this https://guides.interactivebrokers.com/tws/twsguide.htm#cshid=usersguidebook/ordertypes/pegmid.htm there are lots of variations, peg to primary, IBKRATS...

    Directly routed midprice orders

IB still offers all the routes they used to, nothing has changed. You can definitely direct route if you want.

    Directly routed midprice orders

No, those still work. Maybe you did something odd to your settings? There’s also the SMART MIDPRICE route which does something like that. https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=36735

If I buy a stock in one account and short same stock in another account...

If you’re talking about locking in gains, wash sales do not apply (those apply to losses). There’s a similar rule about “constructive sales” that apply to hedging to defer gains or try to reach long term status. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/1259 basically you’re supposed to count...

Wash Sale rules coming to futures and forex markets

Read the proposed updates at the link I posted. The loss can be entirely lost now and is deferred much longer in cases where it can be kept.

Wash Sale rules coming to futures and forex markets

The proposal is that you have to wait until the end of the following year to not trade it if you want to realize your loss. Plus in various cases involving related parties, you never get the loss - it’s just gone with no tax deduction...

What retail brokers offer Health Savings Accounts where you can trade stocks?

Looks like Fidelity, TDA, and Schwab (soon to be the same as TDA) are the main brokers offered. https://thecollegeinvestor.com/22222/best-hsa/

I have made a stupid move from ThinkorSwim to Schwab (StreetSmart)

It took the Datek CEO 30 seconds to front run your order in his personal account, hence the 60 second fill. Remember his $30M fine for front running client orders? https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB1042565269520923544

Can I long and short simultaneously ?

Lots of bad information here. You can do this if your broker lets you. Why is less clear, since the tax benefits have been long removed via “constructive sale” rules that treat creating a box position as a taxable event. TDA will let you do this for stocks, for example, but once you have a...

Nasdaq seeks mandatory rule on board diversity for companies

The current SEC, along partisan lines, rubber stamped the Nasdaq diversity-over-competence governance proposal. https://www.wsj.com/articles/nasdaqs-board-diversity-proposal-faces-sec-decision-11628242202 Under the proposal, Nasdaq-listed companies would need to meet certain minimum...
