Will ADX keep me out of sideways market? Better alternatives?

I would like to be able to stay out of times when markets are moving sideways, and just trade when markets are trending. Is ADX a good indicator for this, or do you know of any better for me to look into? And is there anything negative with using ADX? Thanks!

    Making it?

I should have named the thread something in the likes of "surviving" instead of "making it" since I think it is two very different things, if you think about it. To "make it" can be very different if you ask a number of people, but surviving is usually very concrete - to not lose all your money...

    Making it?

I'm interested in the topic of how many traders who make it. We've all heard that 99% of traders don't make it, or be it 99.9%, or optimistically 98%... Now nobody probably denies this is a hard game to succeed in, but I think there are some fundamental things to do to improve these...

Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

Yes, or just http://www.logmein.com Remote connection to your pc, it works really well, I can recommend it. Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

frost, I follow your thread with great interest. Hopefully you just chose the very wrong time to go live, like you said, so that it is not the system itself that is not performing well. Hope you get out of this weak period soon so we will get to see some nice upside too!

How to choose the right system for the current market?

itmediaco, how many systems are you trading at the same time? Are they long-/short- and sideways-biased, or do each system trade any market?

How to choose the right system for the current market?

Yes thanks! I realize these are two completely different topics. Do you think simply allocating most capital to the system that is performing the best at the moment is a good approach. Or in other words allocating the least money to the system taht is performing the worst. I understand this...

How to choose the right system for the current market?

I guess that's good. Should I take into consideration how well the systems are doing in comparison with how well they should perform according to my backtesting, or just how well they are doing compared to each other? I guess how well the systems are doing in comparison with my backtesting...

How to choose the right system for the current market?

Thanks! I guess if the systems drawdowns are reasonable, then this is a good way. When each of the systems trades under the "wrong" market conditions, it should not be a big loser. And when it is in the "right" market conditions it should be quite profitable. How do you then decide where...
