How to short stocks below $5

I've shorted stocks under $5 with IB several times. The margin requirements are different though. I think it's 100% for stocks $2.50-5.00 and $2.50/share for stocks under that price. The margin info on their web site seems to be out of date.

    Please help with understanding Tiers

TC2000 has eod data that can be imported into excel pretty easily. You can also overlay symbol and index charts. I think it's $30/mo for the end of day data. You can do very detailed scans too.

    Echo Trade Seminar

Who here went to this seminar and what did you think of it? What were the magor strategies covered? Can anyone compare and contrast it to a Bright Trading course? Thanks, Corey

    Trading Journal, November

What caused the guys who quit to do so? I'm assuming they all lost a lot of money, but why? My guess is they either put too much money on their trades or they couldn't accept the losses that were happening and watched them get bigger. What kind of backgrounds did these guys have? I'm going...

    November Trading Journals

Hitman, Regarding your comment about developing a secondary game. Do many traders you know do this? Have their bread and butter trades, but have totally different plays that they'll make depending on the market? Or do most just execute their same plan day after day, knowing that if it's...

    Some "Bright" strategies...

I remember an article in Stocks & Commodities magazine a few months ago that had an article on pairs trading. I've got to dig it out and review it, but basically it said to take your data, input it into a spreadsheet, then use that to find a moving average of the mean price and different levels...

hitman, when you've got a winner going up, do you scale out on the offer, or wait for the end of the move and hit the bid?

    Fomc

I've found that the price action right after the announcement is so fast and whippy that it's a crap shoot to trade then. But lately the market seems to react less violently after the news. Fading the first move for a quick scalp has worked in the past. I'll be sitting on my hands.

    Tape reading

I hear it so often that many very good traders only trade listed stocks. It seems that if you can figure out the true intentions of the specialist or read the encrypted message that the tape is giving, you've found a golden key to profits. But I've found daytrading listed stocks difficult...

    Prop firms in Canada?

Now that is the definition of a chop shop and sure isn't going to win any public support for our business. I loved the dig the Post got on the Globe though: "We want people with nothing in their heads." Among his new employees are a former GAP clothing salesman and a former Globe and Mail...

    Who needs a prop firm?

That's why I said "depending on your trading style". If you swing trade and use a free web-based chart service and IB just for order entry, then a pro firm probably wouldn't benefit you. If you need real time market scanning, fast execution, big leverage, bullets or other features of a pro...

    Who needs a prop firm?

OK, so if you trade from home your broker, data vendor, chart vendor, who you pay for your computer lease, your isp and the guy who sold you your desk all ripped you off? Get real, these are all costs of doing business and depending on your trading style, it could be quite a bit cheaper at a...

    Does anyone use this setup?

I look for those set-ups as well and have found that a high volume move up, followed by narrowing price range and diminishing volume is usually followed with a continuation of the previous trend. I use it on swing trades and for day trades using one minute bars. For multi-day positions, I've...

    Prop firms in Canada?

I thought Bright's website had a 'coming soon to Toronto' message on it. Don't know how current that is or if it's changed.

    Does anyone use this setup?

We're in a bear market, so gap ups aren't as likely. I'd like to know how that backtest would work with stocks down 10%, going short, then covering at the open. I guess it would do better.

ENE and volume over the past weeks.

Yeah, that's quit a decline. But keep in mind that with accounting irregularities it's often sell first, ask questions later. It's nearing month end and I think there are a lot of mutual funds that don't want this on their sheets. You can be sure of shareholder class action suits as well, if...

The discussion boards will be just fine.

Only because he's been mentioned a few times on this thread, but my understanding is that he hasn't left realmoney.com. He's now president of Cramer Berkowitz and is busy finding new offices for the firm since 9-11, but will be back writing when he's done. I look forward to his return as I...

The bad parts of Pro Trading firms

That article pretty much sums up the agreement with ECHOtrade that I just signed. But what's the point of the article? Who would go into this business without knowing all that stuff already? The agreement clearly spells out what you are getting into and what your costs are going to be...
