    Obama Threatens Forex

The U.S. and B.C. rules can only under international law be applied to foreign entities if those entities have a presence (such as an office or advertising) in the U.S. or B.C. respectively. Most banks and large brokers have affiliates in the U.S. and Canada, or might have same in the...

Is this wash trade... is this legal

A major brokerage firm hassled me for transferring positions from one account to another like this (which is all I was doing). They detected it with their market surveillance software. They just asked for an explanation and a promise not to do it again. So do not do it - it is not worth...

Long Term Currency Position in HKD Alternatives?

I am thinking of taking a long-term position in Hong Kong Dollars because I think that the HKD will be revalued upward relative to the USD sometime in the next two years. One way to do this is convert available USD cash to HKD and I have already done that much. I have an Interactive Brokers...

    Beware these b/d's

The irony is, the HFT's would probably have you arrested for "market manipulation"!

    Beware these b/d's

According to a speech by Interactive Brokers' CEO Thomas Peterffy at the World Federation of Exchanges: "Brokers internalize stock trades and put them up at the clearinghouse. They at least are supposed to provide best execution, but best execution is vaguely defined and poorly enforced...

IRA Account without waiting for T+3. IB has one. Is it legit?

"You can make all sorts of exotic investments in an self-directed IRAs using trustees that allow such things - you are saying if you make an investment that is disallowed that you can go after the trustee because they shouldn't have let you do it?!? If you look at the language of the trustee...

IRA Account without waiting for T+3. IB has one. Is it legit?

They cannot require you to make up any loss. The trustee is the owner of the account and you are just the beneficiary. They do not and cannot legally require that you guarantee the account personally. They would just have to take the loss themselves. Presumably they believe that their...

IRA Account without waiting for T+3. IB has one. Is it legit?

I believe it is the Trustee that is responsible for determining the types of investments that are allowed in an IRA account. The trustee is the legal holder of the account. You are "just" the beneficiary of the account, and also the person making trades on behalf of the trustee under rules...

Have you ever taken the physical delivery of a commodity-future?

Normally you just get a warehouse receipt which you can sell so it is not that serious of a problem.

Hugh Hendry: No emerging market exposure, Dollar could rise from here

His views are clear but I was making the point that his portfolio has only very modest exposure to some of them. In some cases under 100 basis points (as per his quarterly reports). He has been almost flat in many respects.

Hugh Hendry: No emerging market exposure, Dollar could rise from here

He claims in other articles that his fund has lost little or nothing this year. I am not sure that this article has a completely accurate summary of Hendry's portfolio.

    Forex from an IRA

By the way, if you ever do stock trades, all except IB may place a 3 day "settlement" delay before you can use the proceeds of a sale.

    Forex from an IRA

Why not just use the broker's recommended IRA custodian? That way costs are minimal. For example, IB and Tradestation will do this at minimal cost. You can still transfer funds between IRA's at different brokers at will.

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

Thaks - interestingly I find that some stocks that are highly correlated do not have good cointegration values. But some certainly do so that site is a great source of value.

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

Thanks to those posting potential pairs. I found that some of these work very well. I have my own code to test for cointegration. Does anyone know of a large list of potential pairs (with hundreds or thousands of potential pairs) for investigation. I know that I can look within...
