    Bloomberg.com new layout WTF?

Same here. As unspectacular as the new layout is, it's an improvement over the previous one.

Disturbing Job Ads: 'The Unemployed Will Not Be Considered'

Okay, but why use a "currently employed" rule, rather than something else, to accomplish this? A lot of people who are very qualified happen to be unemployed. Sorry if I seem a bit slow on the uptake here.

Disturbing Job Ads: 'The Unemployed Will Not Be Considered'

The question is, what does an employer stand to gain by limiting its options for new hires to people who are currently employed?

Slower economic growth needs to be engineered?

However "good" the intentions may be with which they are paving a road to hell, if government employees are causing harm to their bosses, i.e. we the people, without our informed consent, they are liable to prosecution.

Stock Tax May Reduce Volume 90%, Interactive Brokers CEO Says

This is not about redistributing wealth. If this tax goes into effect, the first thing that would happen is the very transactions being taxed would mostly vanish. The revenue government stands to generate, for purposes of redistribution or whatever, is negligible.

    What's wrong with Austrian Economics???

The reason anarcho-capitalism sucks is it's essentially a "one dollar, one vote" system in which the power of money rules unchecked. Turn over a rock in Austria, and you'll find an anarcho-capitalist.

    What's wrong with Austrian Economics???

Austrians believe in eliminating taxes altogether, because they advocate eliminating government itself and letting "the market" (i.e. a rich oligarchy) solve all our problems. Dangerously naive.

could the economic situation be different if we voted differently

OP, Of course the economic situation would be different had we voted differently. Pretty much every situation fits that description, to the extent representatives of the People have to sign off on whatever happens in America.

WSJ today: Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions

Which leads to the obvious question, why aren't we hearing more noise from these companies already? If, as some might suggest, the big retail brokers have "certain information" which makes their protesting this bill either unnecessary or pointless, what exactly is it that they all know and we...

WSJ today: Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions

I see you like name-calling and cotton candy. It has already been explained to you by me and at least one other poster how our elected representatives have been shown to respond to the people who hired them into office in the first place. Leaving any potentially helpful button unpushed in this...

WSJ today: Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions

That's indistinguishable from handwaving. Something this unsubstantial is as good as nothing at all. Why should we "trust you" and your feel-good take a nap recommendation when our businesses are on the line?

WSJ today: Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions

Bullshit. If you want to lay down and die go right ahead, but I'm going to fight this thing. When you can show me one person who will vote on this tax whose position in office does not depend on the people's votes, then I might listen to your "just be quiet and let the big money talk for you"...

WSJ today: Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions

You missed a step. First make sure your elected representatives know how you feel about your livelihood being taken away, then stop worrying about it.

WSJ today: Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions

This tax bill does indeed exclude gay sex in a manner of speaking, namely what GS will do to you and your day trading business with all the exemptions they'll be getting if this cheered-by-CNBC bill passes. And just to review: the tax revenue from a sector put out of business by the taxing of...
