    That's a good observation. Traders/investors think they have an edge, but it's only a strategy. Some hedge funds may have edge from getting early notices of analyst upgrades to stocks, thus front-running upgrade announcements.

    How about being persistently tenacious? I agree it's important to stop doing what doesn't appear to work, which isn't as easy it would seem because of intermittent reinforcement, plus the fact that strategies degrade to unprofitability over time.

    The USD index is worth watching. It hit a downtrend line in July, then immediately turned down coincident with Fed's non-tapering decision, and continued almost to 12 month lows on further non-tapering. I think it's read to break down in the months ahead from its deformed head and shoulders...
