    Programming interviews

Many years back I was interviewed for a software development/network admin role in London. They allowed me to take the software portion of the test home (which included a bubble sort question in VB6). I got that job and enjoyed many years with the company. When I decided to leave and went...

What are the questions you ask yourself in order to eliminate false positives?

Ahh ok I see what you are getting at now. I was confused why you wouldn't trade a signal but it is because you are evaluating more than one simultaneously. Thats where we are different. I prefer preparing as best I can beforehand so that the closer I get to the signal, the less Im thinking.

What are the questions you ask yourself in order to eliminate false positives?

Dont take offence my friend. Lets try and make this a stimulating discussion. We all have different opinions and this is a great place to express them. I am simply questioning your assertion that one goes broke without first waiting for confirmation. My interpretation is that a positive signal...

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

Yeah I guess you are right. What is the reason for re routing orders? What is the criteria or is that unknown? is it simply IB discretion? Not sure Im liking the sound of this after all to be honest.

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

I dont know if they do or dont that is why I asked. I didn't even know they took the other side until I read this thread. If it is true then Id like to know if there is a way to identify which trades did not reach the exchange and whether I was charged exchange fees on them.

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

I completely agree! Im all for them matching my orders internally. No exchange fees, faster execution - I will happily take their money all day long :D. How do I know if its happening on my account? Do I need to click some buttons in that TWS abomination?

What are the questions you ask yourself in order to eliminate false positives?

Confirmation of the confirmation also helps. Hate those false positive confirmations they invalidate my initial evidential bias and cause a neutralised directional perspective. To combat this I utilise a 3 dimensional confirmation of the confirmation of the confirmation strategy which sometimes...

Is this seriously what trend traders do?

    How are maintenance margins applied?

Wouldn't your maintenance be $4500 for the two positions ($2,250*2)? If you are flat at the end of day two with 2 CL positions open then that would leave you with $5,500 in your account?

    How are maintenance margins applied?

I did speak to IB. My first post contains the text from the live chat. For some reason i wasnt getting it (forgive me I can be very slow at times). But then these two sentences cleared it up for me. Thanks for the help. I know it sounded like a daft question but im not concerned with that, if...

Follow the Smart Money / COT Analysis

This is interesting stuff. Does COT analysis help you with longer term swing trading?

    How are maintenance margins applied?

Yeah that would piss me off too. So if Im in a CL position and things get wild and Im down $600 with no more funds to cover the $1200 margin, then they could simply liquidate the position saying that I had insufficient margin requirements? What else do they do that I should be aware of?

    How are maintenance margins applied?

This is news to me. I have an account with IB and also with Dorman. My preference is IB because my funds are held locally here in the UK and protected up to 50K. The money I have with Dorman is not protected and it worries me a bit. Under what scenario would they increase my margin? What did...

    How are maintenance margins applied?

What do you mean? I heard IB are the best in terms of reputation.

Is this seriously what trend traders do?

Just my opinion that follows - there is no way that a single bar can be the boundary between trend off and trend on. I think what you are talking about is defining a single bar in relation to market structure. Example: What does candle mean to you? Cant say. Lets look wider: Ok now we...

    How are maintenance margins applied?

If I open a single contract trade at 09:30 GMT what applies? intraday initial or intraday maintenance? If I hold into the close, at what point does overnight initial or overnight maintenance apply to me? I guess Im confused with the difference between initial and maintenance. The exchange is...

    How are maintenance margins applied?

IB has 4 margin categories: 1. Intraday Initial If you want to open the position during the opening hours of the exchange, the initial intraday margin needs to be covered 2. Intraday Maintenance To hold the position during the opening hours of the exchange you need to covert the maintenance...

    Sierra Chart bar recognition

'Color Bar Based On Alert Condition' is marvellous! Really appreciate your help. I noticed when I loaded this study that there is another one called 'Colour based on above/below' - so Im going to load up a 300 EMA as a filter and only activate the alert condition based on this EMA. Thanks for...

    Sierra Chart bar recognition

Unirenko settings are 10-6-4 for NQ. I have been reading a lot on this forum about swing trading vs day trading and I really want to transition to swing type trades. The problem I am trying to address is continuously having to watch and scan the charts for setups which is why I need to explore a...
