    Finding a new job, advice?

I've traded various equity options and single stock futures, including option spreads. I've also done some amount of analysis (although not as much as I'd like due to time constraints and how many hours I put in at work) on exotic options (like knock-ins/knock-outs, etc), credit default...

    Goldman sachs preferreds, screaming buy?

Picked up some of the series D today for 17.9 / share. Liquidity sure is tight on these things. We'll see how it goes :)

    Goldman sachs preferreds, screaming buy?

Have you read the prospectus? I just looked at the prospectus for the A/B/C/D series preferred stock, and they are ALL NON-cumulative. Not worth it I say. If it was cumulative I'd jump on the Series D Libor + 67bp (minimum 4%) preferred for ~ $18 in a heartbeat.

I also have very good knowledge on Equity Derivatives and can prove it in an interview.

    Finding a new job, advice?

The fund is just under 2 billion now (was over 2 billion a week ago..) The reason I want to leave, is by looking at the fund's past performance, and how far away the high water mark is right now, it may be over 2 years before they hit the high water mark again. Oh, and by the way, how do I...

    Finding a new job, advice?

Well I wasn't planning on quitting unless I had a new one secured. Hence why I'd like to keep the job hunt private.

    Finding a new job, advice?

First off, I'm currently employed at a hedge fund, in the tech group. The firm isn't doing too well right now, and from what I've seen with the firm's PnL and their historical returns, it looks like this year's bonus will be extremely small, and since I'm planning on moving to Manhattan within...

    iron cockroach

If the claim is that it's 8 legged risk free, then that's bullshit. Even a simple conversion or reversal isn't 100% risk free.

I think we should ban people who make YHOO style pumper posts

This isn't the place for that kind of bullshit.

    AMZN-how bad will it be?

Go make your dumb comments on YHOO msg boards. If it was guaranteed to open at 90, then it'd be pushed up to 90 in AH. It could go up, or it could go down.

Wow, you can sell an iron butterfly/condor at nearly no risk on AMZN

70/72.5/75 iron butterfly: Proceeds: 8.80 on sale of the 72.50 straddle Expense: 6.60 on buying the 70/75 strangle. This is assuming 10c slippage on every leg (40c total), and you're still getting a net credit of 2.20. If you get decent fills, you can probably get that up to 2.45...

    Real risks of IB EFPs

    1 month, $50 stock, 5.25% interest rate. You get 21.875c on a 1 month EFP There's probably 1 cent in slippage, and .5 cents in commission. That's a 6.857% commission/slippage. If you go further out, 1/2 a year $1.3125 on a 6 month EFP Since it's further out, there's probably 3...

    Real risks of IB EFPs

    1) It sure as hell is a risk. If the stock/future goes up and you have to adjust your position, you have to lose a couple cents on the EFP, and lose a cent on the commissions (2 ways). If you have to do this often enough, it IS an issue. 2) Stocks moving up / down 20% happens. Look at MMM...

Heres one for the moral equivilence crowd (liberal anii)

I'd have to say that's pretty fucked up, although the way things work in the middle east, she had to have known that bad things would happen to her if she started screwing someone of the wrong "faction". Out of all the violence that occurs in the middle east, this comes to me with no shock...

    Charles Vaccaro and Oliver Velez

I love how they disguise the 5K risk capital as a non-refundable fee.

    Real risks of IB EFPs

Actually, if you're selling the EFP (long stock short future), you should try to go for a name that you think will go DOWN in hopes of catching a windfall profit. And you should also go on a slightly longer time horizon then 1 month. Otherwise the fees will get significant.

    Real risks of IB EFPs

Ok, I'm going to make this very clear, short and concise, every risk I can think of off the top of my head related to EFPs: 1) Mark to market risk. If the stock goes up, you're now up on the stock, and down on the future. The future gets marked to the market. This can cause you to have a...

Setting up offshore or moving to trade

If you renounce citizenship, how are they going to make you pay taxes? The chances of them trying to get you extradited because you refused to pay taxes AFTER you're not a citizen is zero.

    Minimum Wage Increase Effective 7/24/07

A minimum wage worker will get most, if not all their payroll taxes refunded provided they properly fill out a tax return. Either way, I have no sympathy for a minimum wage worker. 1) If they're in high school, they're doing it just for some spending money, and chances are if minimum wage...
