A reliable, low commission broker to buy Treasury bonds? (with other people money)

You know, I thought about it.. it'd be a lucrative business. Charge people 1% / year, and get a treasurydirect account, put their money in it, and set up automated shit to roll 28 day bills, and call it a money market fund. If you manage $5M, you get $50K / year, for doing absolutely nothing.

    Interactive brokers STP

I just called yesterday to get the STP Device. Since there's many many many conflicting pieces of information about it.. Can someone who has it please answer me this question: Is the device used for logging into TWS / WebTrader? If not, then it's pointless to me (probably should've...

You want better customer service? Then you have to pay for it with higher commissions, less interest paid on long balances, more margin charges on short balances, etc..

    What's this?

How is this a scam? They disclosed to you everything you need to know about EFPs, including the caveats (the fact that they charge commission, and the fact that the futures may be slightly less liquid then the underlying stock). If they just said the positives and didn't tell you the...

I got a hedge fund job

Actually, funny thing is, I wasn't even looking for this job. A headhunter agency called me about my resume I posted online. I actually got calls about other job offers shortly after I accepted this job (don't know what exactly they were for though, since I wasn't interested). As far as...

I got a hedge fund job

Oh, as far as the languages I use go, there's a lot of them. - C# - Perl - Unix shell scripting - sql - tcl Almost ALL of the NEW programming projects that are being developed are in C#. The scripts that generate reports are done in perl/shell scripts + sql to pull the data from the...

I got a hedge fund job

devil, the tools that I am working on are by no means simple. This "tool" is what the ops people use for 95% of their work. It contains about half a million lines of code. As far as the daily activities go, Yes, a lot of it is writing scripts and dealing with a lot of the same issues, but...

I got a hedge fund job

Nope, we don't book trades as techops, or settle/square em out, that's ops' job (which I guess is the equivalent of tradeops). We write scripts that automatically generate rec reports. We also do the software that the ops group uses to book the trades, as well as manage the software that the...

Yeah.. have fun with your worthless 1 million iraqi dinars if you buy them. If it doesn't trade on forex, i wouldn't touch it personally.

I got a hedge fund job

I would say this position is middle office. My position is "techops" "ops" are the guys who scrutinize every trade, "techops" develop software and work with the traders with various things. Then again, I'm not exactly sure what the distinctions are between middle and back office.

I got a hedge fund job

Yeah, I found out that a lot of the financial firms require ~11 hour days. If this firm was the only one that required that, then there's no way I would've taken the position.

I got a hedge fund job

No, when they say 7 - 6, they MEAN 7-6. I don't know where you work, but at this place, if you show up later then the partners do (one of the FIRST things the other guys told me is you MUST beat the partners in the morning) consistently, you're not going to get anywhere. Generally, we get in...

I got a hedge fund job

Yeah, but keep in mind another one of the main reasons I took this job, is because even if things don't work out, the next time I look for a job, it'll be 100 times easier with this kind of experience on my resume. (Plus this was the only job I was interviewing for, heh, and there's only 6...

I got a hedge fund job

I just got a job with a hedge fund in Greenwich, CT, however, it's not a trading job (which I was originally seeking). Basically, the job is development & trader support. We develop applications that the traders use, write scripts to generate reports, etc.. and resolve problems for traders...

6:1 margin for overnight stock positions at InteractiveBrokers

Hmm, as soon as your account drops under 100K it reverts to regulation T margin.. LOL.. I can see it now, someone's margined out to the balls and their account drops to $99,999, and 80% of their stuff is liquidated instantly due to one massive margin liquidation.
