    Time vs tick

Inspired by this thread I've started back testing a Momo setup with volume bars rather than time bars and I have to agree, at least for intra-day trading. It becomes "event oriented", which the price book is since it needs trades to occur in order to move in the first place. I'm not sure either...

what about buying the high every day?

As mentioned in another post you either end up buying the new "high" every time there's an uptick after the first "high" which is obviously rediculous, so you then have to specify when is the "high" that you're going to go with as the "high", which is usually contained within an arbitrary time...

what about buying the high every day?

Where do you place your stop and profit targets? How do you define the high? Is it the high after the cash open? for that 24 hour period beginning with the overnight session? The high between some arbitrary time intervals? What if there was a higher high in the premarket and spot is now down...

    the simplest strategy that works

The success or failure to make a higher high or lower low, I think that most of the shape-oriented drawings on charts such as wedges and whatnot are simply visual cues that are tied to this concept. The arrows on that chart make me think of the Elliott Wave method which may also be the same...

    Time vs tick

I second the question on the bar speed indicator. I have ninja trader and they have volume bars but I don't think they have a timer for it. There is an indicator called "bar timer" but to my disappointment it just counts down the time until the next time bar, no connection to constant volume bars.

    Time vs tick

Very interesting stuff. Thank you They and Xela for shedding some light on the subject. Are there any rules of thumb for bar size, such as a percentage of average daily volume or some such? Do you ever change your bar size based on market conditions or do you rely primarily on the speed of their...

    Time vs tick

Interesting...do the constant volume bars have their own set of quirks then? I only ask because I'm familiar with the quirks of time unit bars such as a big move happening within one time bar etc.

What is a constant volume chart? I've never heard of that.

Looking for Pre Qualified Leads Service

The arguments about "what about the discount brokers" etc. are garbage from people who haven't done it. If you're a good salesperson you will be able to cold call and raise tens of millions of dollars in client AUM. I did it three years ago, not in the 90's. Do not call list sucks, yes, but it...

    What is an edge?

This. I read so many books and blogs and forum posts ad nauseum before I finally got what the hell it means. A defined strategy (entry, exit, and possible adjustment criteria for trades) that has positive expectancy. That's it. It's not as mysterious as innovating some new technology like a lot...

Technical Analysis is total rubbish! Here's the proof!

Just trying to make the point that human behavior is response to stimuli, not random. I agree on the normal distribution in many cases, central limit theorem comes into play, but with some degree of market efficiency (emphasis on some) present at any one time, or perhaps just shared expectations...

List every single thing you did today in chronological order such as: wake up, pee, get a glass of water/coffee, shower, get dressed, eat etc. etc. etc. Now tell me how many of those things or the order they happened in are randomly generated.

How accurate is NinjaTrader Market Replay (now called Playback Connection in NT8)?

Question is in the title, I'm trading ZB futures intraday off of the 5min chart on market replay/playback connection using NT's data. I want to make sure my results will translate to live.
