    Wait, Scottrade vs. IB?

Their stock flat rate is $0.005/share with a $1 minimum transaction. So if you buy 50 shares you pay $1. If you buy 200, you pay $1. If you buy 300, you pay $1.50. There are other modifiers (if you use the API, etc), but that's the quick version. If you have a moderate sized account...

    SBUX - Buy 37.00 Call / Sell 40.00 Call

Just out of curiosity, why not just buy the call rather than the spread? I'm guessing it's an earnings play so theta won't ding you too much, you don't get much downside protection from the call anyway, and if they crush earnings, you'll be limiting your profits if it rockets to the upside.

Does QQQ follow a distinct trading pattern?

    1) You need to be careful to prove to yourself that this is a valid method and not just based on "data mining." For example, something like picking the presidency based on previous Super Bowl winners may appear promising, but has no actual connection to the results, so it's merely a coincidence...

Every American spends $3334 per month to USA economy

Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees makes $27 million a year. There are 308,745,538 people in the US as of the 2010 census. If 308,745,538 people make $27 million per year, the USA economy would be 8 quadrillion dollars.

Is Radiation in USA from Japan at Dangerous Levels?

Um, if you actually read the article, the answer to your question sounds like "no". Also, the half-lives for both of those isotopes are quite short: Te-132 = 78 hours, I-131 = 8 days.

    Forget Bull Markets in Stocks

Awesome. Your threads are even better than the one where the guy dueled with the IB demo account market makers, so keep posting them. Also, I collect non sequiturs so, needless to say, I consider these threads the mother lode! P.S: Off to buy some Sterno to cook my evening meal and help beat...

Is there a free way to do this?

Without arguing the validity of the "secret", 1) StockFetcher will do all the end of day scans for you, but not the intraday one. It's not free, but it's ridiculously cheap ($8.95 a month and maybe less than that if you do longer subscriptions). Based on its results, you could do a quick visual...

    AAPL - Earnings - Bought 350 calls

So I didn't quite have stones to buy ultra short term OTM calls to play the earnings announcement. Being a bit more conservative, I instead did a May 1/2 ratio backspread (short 335C x 1, long 350C x 2) which I entered yesterday morning for a $1.01 credit. My plan from the beginning was to...

IB API - Using twice the same Id

It's been a few months since I've played with my code, so hopefully the cobwebs aren't too thick. The IB API requires orderIDs for orders as well as requests (market data, portfolio info, etc) but they are independent things. Once you use an ID# on an order, you can't re-use it on another order...

real world RE ? best method to purchase house for MIL

Can you get a good discount by coming in with cash? If not and you have the money, why not get something like a 5/1 ARM and make big extra payments so you pay it off even before you need to re-finance? This way you don't tie up all your cash in the house and have it available for emergencies...

    Recommendation for newbie

Another alternative is NinjaTrader, which allows you to do strategy development/backtesting in C#. The help file is fairly well documented and their forum is also useful. If you are using something other than time-based charts (tick or volume), the TWS data feed will be less than useful...in...

GOOG earnings after close tomorrow - need options strategy

Anybody who has been on here for a little while takes those type of posts with a grain of salt. If the poster actually took the trade as first posted and then edited it for some reason to make it look like they did something else, it's sad, but who cares? It didn't cost or make me a dime.

    Fading a Guru

On the ET forum, I would say the term "guru" is almost always used in a sarcastic and derisive manner, but you are picking someone who you feel actually has at some semblance of skill and is worthy of respect (I don't know much about him, myself). If you are intending to fade their methods...

Looking to sell a profitable stock position: OTM, ATM, or ITM covered calls?

If your short options are ITM at expiration you will be assigned. You can be assigned even if they are OTM. This is unlikely, especially for something like the QQQ, but it could happen (if somebody really wanted the shares for a dividend, for example, they might be willing to pay up a couple of...

GOOG earnings after close tomorrow - need options strategy

I wouldn't do an April expiration on that 550/600 strangle either, since if the move doesn't materialize, time decay is going to chop a nice chunk of your position away. It's much safer to use May, even if it's going to cost you twice as much. If the move happens, you'll be more profitable with...
