Weekly Poll: After Mubarak Shoved +4% Candle Up Bear's Butt, What Happens Now?

What's amazing is that when Mubarak was finally going to step down, that helped the markets.... but a few years back that would have caused people to say "Gee, more instability, we don't know who will really lead now, etc..." and the market would have fallen about 400 points. Just a...

New SLAVERY in America. 25 cents/minute??????

I would assume because the person mentioned by the OP applied for the job and got it, as opposed to having some guys grab her off the street one day, chain her and force her to do that work. Maybe some people would prefer not to work at all, but is it reasonable to think everyone should be...

New SLAVERY in America. 25 cents/minute??????

Same if someone makes a good wage, but has potential to make more. Nothing related to salary here - actually if you were making min. wage, why fear the the consequences of quitting?

    Sell-Off this week?

There seems to be so many people hoping for a sell off that if we started to drop quite a bit, I have to imagine there would be a lot of short covering - plus there is still all that money on the sidelines, good earnings, QE #infinite..., Egypt probably getting some resolution, etc, etc...

Kill switch for U.S. internet may impair commerce

I just wonder how smart shutting down the internet was though - that is a sure way to get people to be mad, bored, and running into the streets looking for something to do. If they were smart, they would have had govt. workers pretend to be normal bloggers supporting the people, but trying to...

    US Economy is BOOMING!

OK, Here is the deal - when the markets were like DOW 6000 people said "the little guy who invested has been screwed". Now, with the dow around 12000, people say: "the little guy who invested has been screwed" Truth is "the little guy" had plenty of opportunity to buy stocks like LVS...

    US Economy is BOOMING!

Just wanted to add - on the other hand, I do remember at least 1 person in my company that moved all his 401K money from stocks to bonds/cash (and I think at least 1 other was strongly considering doing so). Don't remember exactly when, but I think it was around or somewhat after the Lehman...

    US Economy is BOOMING!

Bob, But that's what FreeThinkings point is - other people are saying the average person has got nothing from QE, etc. - FreeThinking points out that's not exactly true. I don't claim to have done anything special to have had the gains since the lows. The point is that people ARE up from...

    US Economy is BOOMING!

I agree - my 401K is actually up nearly double (!) since the Lehman induced lows - and while I have continued contributing to it, that is a small percentage of the overall increase. JJacksET4

Need help understanding my risks !!!

Whipsaw - if you tried to make your numbers too tight, there would be too much whipsaw - in other words, I think you would want to give some cushion such as at least $1 or $2 in the stock before going in that direction. 1 cent or even 5 cents can happen in a second. You could end up trading...

    Buying a diagonal spread

As Spin mentions, the max risk is $4 per position. If you are assigned, you would own stock worth $8000 that you paid $10000 for - the Feb 100 put with the stock at $80 would be worth at least $2000 - so $10,000 value with $10,000+$400 paid. If the stock continued to fall to $60, you would...

    Non-ordinary dividends

I am NOT a dividend expert by any means, but I think the options are adjusted, which then actually doesn't make bullish positions risker. I.E. if a stock is at $35 and you own a $35 strike call Now, there is a $5 one time dividend: The stock goes to $30 and the call is changed to a $30...

Need help understanding my risks !!!

Alex, You seem to be kind of all around there in your post. You don't make it real clear what you are trying to do. First of all if you are a starter without a large account, you shouldn't assume that you would be able to sell naked calls. That being said, you might have a...

What was the reason for the huge spike up last half hour?

Boy that's for sure as far as cuts go at least - does anyone really think Obama wants to get liberals on his case saying he is just "helping the rich guys"! Slight different note - he is going to ask Congress to cut tax breaks for oil companies (shock!) - that could make them sell off...

Hey Mcdonalds boosting prices on their menu!!!!!

So because they will raise prices on SOME items probably just over 2.5%, that means "food prices continue to soar"???? Give me a break. McD's prices per person go up because 10-20 years ago no one there was buying high-end coffees, low cal salads, fancy chicken sandwiches, etc. It amazes...

Vertical Spread Newbie question once again

Sure you can close credit spreads (or debit spreads) at any time of course. Your wording isn't real clear as you don't state if you are talking about bull put spreads (I think you are) or bear call spreads. You mention "when I'm well over my short ..." so I think you mean when the stock has...

    A couple of observations...

It would appear that the RSI for QQQQ on the weekly chart was unable to stay over 75 for even one week. (Lucious Sweet to Moe in the Simpsons "You couldn't even give me one round"!) When there are substantial overbought/oversold conditions, I feel they are worth paying attention to. And I...

    A couple of observations...

Go to stockcharts.com and check the weekly QQQQ chart. The RSI is >75. The last time we were in this range was before the downturn late Apr into May of 2010. Of course, the market eventually turned higher again, but QQQQs fell >5 points and it wasn't til Oct that it was back over the Apr...
