Agree with everything you say as usual! When the market does force the trader to learn, some are better at dealing with it than others.

    Vertical Spreads for Aggressive Growth

That's why it's so popular with beginners as evidenced by the length of the SPX Credit Spread thread. The high winning % is alluring and requires no trading skill to enter the position. I can summarize the first 80% of the thread here: 35-45 days out look for options with delta of .10 and...

    Vertical Spreads for Aggressive Growth

Round and round it goes. Where will it stop? Nobody knows. At the beginning of the this journal I discussed the cheap gamma concept in detail: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=965200&#post965200 More than you ever wanted to know about flies (note the embedded...

To the software experts: WHICH SOFTWARE can help me do this??

You may want to consider posting the project on one of the following: www.rentacoder.com www.scriptlance.com www.elance.com If you do post there be sure to be a lot more detailed than the outline given by your post here though. Certainly some kind of database backend seems warranted...

FWIW: As discussed before, under the right circumstances shorting volatility can be a high probability play. Earnings, FDA,court rulings etc. Events where you know volatility is going to collapse. Why not take advantage of that? 1) Short calendar - long GAMMA, short VEGA 2) Short time fly -...

My apologies. I can sense that we are going to get into some communication and comprehension issues here that are not easily resolved via this particular medium so I'll politely wish you continued luck with your trading and success and leave it at that.

Just curious, what information do you hope to glean from that? Perhaps you're equating winnning % with long term positive expectancy. Win/loss ratio can't be viewed in isolation. One has to always include risk/reward too. Congratulations on your success but winning percentage is only...

“Option Volatility & Pricing” but what’s next!

Worth having but not as per your current requirements. It is more of an academic text.

    Poor Man's Hedge Fund

You mean re-straddle components that have had outliers in opposite directions right? Good luck with journal no.4 Riskarb. I'm still trying to arrange an account with ABN AMRO through German friends...but taking some time  Hopefully I can play along with you soon. MoMoney

VIX has bottomed or IV_Trader will leave ET

Ah yes, but this is in chit chat! [B] Only when single digits are printed. Until then, we need someone to man the options room in ET chat.

It's that time of the week again. VIX printed 10.66 intraday here. SPX still at 1365.

What was the price for vanilla 460 OCT/NOV long CALL calendar? Being an OTM calendar with massive tenor skew, it would have been relatively cheap to buy. It is now trading at about $13

Call that a dip?! Made it all the way down to 455 at the open LOL. Strong.

    Jimbo's Option Spread Journal

Drinks are on you then! Might want to hit the offer on those long CALLs near the open before the vols get crushed. Will probably also trade down to 430 or so in the first half hour before bouncing back up to 460. Jimbo might want to cover his CALLs on the dip and vol crush. Should be...

Hi Rosy, If you're referring to CCAPI: I'm looking at getting some other broker interfaces and data feeds integrated with it as they currently only support GCI. The guys there are very friendly and helpful. The package is well architected and thought out - it has evolved quite a bit...

Yes, you sold the 460s for $4.40 and you could have bought them back at the close for $1.50 The risk/reward for holding on to them was not there. You'll probably get away with it but IMO this is not an approach for longevity. Google's last earnings movment was not typical.

Thanks for that. Batch makes sense. By the way, it is Whaley. Wonder if you'd considered leveraging Quantlib for your app? Supports Whaley and Merton 76 Jump Diffusion amongst many others.
